THE AAPP WILL ANNOUNCE TWO NEW AND LONG-AWAITED MEMBER BENEFITS AT THE SEATTLE SUMMIT |
|
A medical evacuation program for AAPP members. We have scoured the marketplace to find the very best of these offerings and are now bringing it to you to offer through your practice. Our new partner will be enrolling practices at the event and conducting a travel medicine workshop on Sunday morning.

A medical malpractice policy for private physicians. At last... A medical malpractice offering available nation wide that is specifically priced to account for the reduced risk profile of private physicians. We have been waiting for years for a carrier to create this product, and it has finally happened.
It looks like our Summit in Seattle, the birthplace of private medicine, will be our biggest and best ever. Register today at www.aapp.org while there is still room in the hotel!

The AAPP members’ forum on LinkedIn has come to life! For months, members have been clamoring for an online forum to communicate with one another… ask questions… voice opinions. We have now launched the American Academy of Private Physicians group on LinkedIn.com as our member forum.
If you don’t yet have a LinkedIn account, please establish one (it’s free). It will create visibility for you and your practice in this enormous online community, and it will enable you to join the AAPP group.
This group is for members only, and dialogue will be closely monitored to ensure that the group is not spammed or otherwise misused. If you have questions about how to join, please contact Shelly Banyay at 877.746.7301 or sbanyay@aapp.org.

ACO, PCP, HHS, BABY YOU AND ME? |
|
By James J. Eischen, Jr., Esq.
(With apologies: read the article title with my favorite old Michael Jackson song “ABC” in mind).
The union of managed care reform, and the primary care physician (PCP) as the gatekeeper of improved care/cost results, is officially proposed by the federal government. The accountable care organization (ACO) proposal to the primary physicians: help implement the ACO organization goals of cost containment and improved care results in exchange for increased compensation. Or think of it this way: the ACO is on its knee at the restaurant. The violins are playing, surging louder. A box opens… is that a ring? The ring size is bit hazy, but the ACO says it is a much bigger and more valuable ring than your last go-around with managed care reform. So, should the PCP say “yes” and rush into the arms of the ACO? Or run out the back door?

CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGIES YOU CAN TRY FOR YOURSELF IN SEATTLE: |
|
Experience your own in-home sleep study: With our recent focus on heart attack and stroke prevention, we have highlighted the dangers of undiagnosed sleep apnea. In Seattle, we will have the makers of the world's most advanced home diagnostic test for obstructive AND central sleep apnea. Even better... You can try it yourself! Meeting attendees can actually wear the device overnight on Saturday night and get a free sleep study before they leave on Sunday morning. If you would like to try this for yourself, please notify us as soon as possible so that we can arrange your study.
Try for yourself one of the latest technologies for pain management: In Seattle, you will be able to try NeuroMed's electroanalgesic pain management technology. Currently being tested by members of the AAPP Innovators Panel, this technology promises to be among our most fascinating to try for yourself.
Try 2 high-tech ways to find cardiovascular disease: With our commitment to heart attack and stroke prevention, CIMT screenings by mobile ultrasound provider, VasoLabs, and the worldwide leader in handheld ultrasound, SonoSite, have become commonplace at AAPP events over the last year.
In Seattle, we have added a second technology that may impress you - multifunction cardiogram (MCG) from Premier Heart. Where medicine has historically taken a reductionist view of the ECG, Premier Heart's MCG technology uses an integrative approach to build a mathematical model of the entire cardiac system. This approach allows MCG to obtain accurate diagnoses from a simple, non-invasive test. Try it yourself alongside the CIMT screening.
