Everyone at Action Motorsports would like to wish you and your family a safe and happy new year. This coming year, we will continue our commitment in offering outstanding service to our valued customers. This past year, we launched our new and improved website featuring resources that can be accessed by our customers 24/7. Not only can you shop thousands of products through our online store, but you can access OEM part diagrams from Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha. These diagrams not only eliminate any confusion in ordering your correct OEM parts, but they also act as a useful tool during assembly. As the manufacturers make the information available, all of the 2010 product lines will be available for viewing directly from our site. We are looking forward to the new year and have some exciting plans for everyone! If there is anything you would like to see changed or added to our online store or website, please forward those suggestions on to mailto:jkovacs_ams@yahoo.com.
Pre-Season Offroad Motorcycle Mark Down
Stop in and check out our offroad motorcycle inventory. We have a new or used motorcycle for everyone. ALL of our used offroad motorcycles and select new offroad motorcycles are on sale this January. Don't delay, these motorcycles will not last long at these prices. Call one of our sales representatives for more information. To view our used inventory click here.
Choosing the Correct Coolant/Antifreeze
In these times of heightened environmental awareness there
have been many changes to the petroleum products we use in our motorcycles and
ATVs. Our products span many generations of green think and consequently
choosing the best product to protect our investment has become more
challenging.
Specifically I want to review coolant/antifreeze types and
how they affect our products.
Engine antifreezes are made up of two primary ingredients,
ethylene glycol or propylene glycol. Ethylene glycol is toxic if ingested,
where as propylene glycol is considerably less toxic and may be labeled as
“non-toxic antifreeze.” The chemical additive packages used to prevent corrosion is
where much of the confusion comes in.
The additive packages can be broken down into three basic
types:
Inorganic Additive Technology (IAT) also known as
conventional or 3 year/30,000 miles antifreeze containing silicates or
phosphates. Some aftermarket brands contain both.
Organic Additive Technology (OAT) marketed as Extended Life
or 5 year/150,000 miles antifreeze containing benzoate, sebacate or other
organic acids.
G-05 or Hybrid Organic Additive Technology (HOAT) contains a
combination of organic acids and a low concentration of silicate additives and
is sold as 5 year/150,000 miles or life time antifreeze.
When adding an IAT to an OAT, the recommended coolant change
interval will degrade to that of the shorter-life coolant. Typically, when the
mixture stays below 25 percent, new coolant on top of 75 percent of the
original coolant, the corrosion protection performance will remain that of the
original coolant.
All antifreeze types contain corrosion inhibitors which,
over time become depleted and may no longer provide maximum cooling system
corrosion protection. For this reason, antifreeze should be replaced at the
recommended intervals listed in the Owner’s or Service Manual.
The practical point is, use a good quality coolant (those
using Organic Additive Technology) that are silicate free. Coolants such as
those designed for automobiles use these silicates as an abrasive to clean the
system. These silicates reduce water pump life and need to be avoided.
Yamacool 60/40
Yamacool 60/40 is uniquely formulated ethylene glycol based
antifreeze with phosphate and other OAT additives, engineered to give maximum
freezing, boiling, and corrosion protection throughout its service life. This
product provides freeze-point protection down to -62º F and boil-over
protection up to 272ºF.
Yamacool’s silicate-free formula, recommended by most
Japanese engine manufacturers, is compatible with all coolants. It comes ready
to use, pre-mixed with de-ionized water.
We stock Honda, Yamaha, and Suzuki specific coolants as well
as Liquid Performance Coolant and Engine Ice. Stop by our parts department or give us
a call for additional information.
