Dear Friends and Supporters,
This year presents us with the opportunity to take a moment to pause and reflect on the personal and professional achievements and highlights of 2022. This is also the time to set out our goals and aspirations for 2023.
Our AIP Foundation team was delighted to receive the AmCham Corporate Social Responsibility Award 2022 for our contributions to safe mobility across Vietnam. Our 24th year in action was marked by successful programs and initiatives, leaving a lasting impact for a more sustainable tomorrow.
Global Action for Safer Mobility in 2022
November brought around the annual World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, a stark reminder of why our work truly matters. As we joined hands to observe this day with the international community, we knew then and now that we must urgently act together to solve the global crisis facing the world's roads.
In this spirit, we were delighted to welcome Jean Todt, United Nations Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety, to meet our colleagues in Bangkok, Hanoi, and Phnom Penh. As part of his mission to South-East Asia in November 2022, he participated in the
Eco-Safe Driver Dissemination workshop jointly hosted by AIP Foundation, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and VF Corporation advocating for environmentally friendly driving apps in Cambodia.
In early December,
VF Corporation won the prestigious Prince Michael International Road Safety Award 2022 for the
Driving Change: Facilitating Self-Advocacy for Garment Factory Workers program in Cambodia. Congratulations! We are proud to be part of this achievement with you.
Safeguarding the next generation on the roads in Thailand
In Thailand, a
Safety Delivered Forum 2022 was hosted to promote community awareness of the life-saving importance of increasing child safety on the roads in Thailand as well as a helmet handover ceremony at two project schools. At the heart of this legacy program, supported by UPS and The UPS Foundation, are the core values of collaboration and inclusivity, creating a more just and equitable future for the next generation.
To contribute to achieving the target Sustainable Development Goal 3.6 to halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic crashes, the
Chevron Street Wise program celebrated Road Safety Week 2022 in Thailand at Wichianchom primary school. This immersive learning week aimed to teach students all about safe mobility.
Empowering youth in Vietnam to speak up!
As part of our innovative Big Data mobility program,
AI&Me: Empowering youth for safer roads, we are excited to launch the Youth Engagement App (YEA) in Ho Chi Minh City, Pleiku City, and Yen Bai, Vietnam. The launch engages students from 18 project secondary schools and colleges on how to use the App encouraging young voices to champion safer mobility in their communities.
In early December, we pioneered helmet safety standards innovation by bringing the first United Nations ECE 22.05 Standard helmets to Vietnam as part of the
Helmets for Kids program supported by Johnson & Johnson. This is the first AIP Foundation partner to introduce and support this initiative in Vietnam to improve the quality of helmet use among students.
Many more are coming to make safe quality helmets accessible to everyone in Asia. In Ho Chi Minh City, the launch of our latest program,
Empowering Safety supported by the PUMA Energy Foundation, saw Grade 12 students receive newly produced ECE 22.06 United Nations Standard helmets.
Prudential Vietnam has launched the third year of the
SAFE STEPS KIDS – Road Safety (SSK-RS) program, implemented by AIP Foundation, aiming at mitigating the risks students experience every single day by providing students with safe equipment and proper road traffic education.
New Year, New Opportunities to enact sustainable change
We are also proud to expand our creative partnerships with universities across the globe, engaging students to take a stand for safer mobility. With RMIT University, we advocated for the importance of the Global Plan through an interactive Instagram campaign, and how can video games have a social impact. With leading students from UC Berkley Institute of Transportation Studies we are exploring the people-first impact we wish to make for Smart Cities in the countries where we work across our region.
As we enter 2023, we are excited about the recent expansion of the
Slow Zones, Safe Zones program after launching the ‘Bike to school’ Campaign in Pleiku City, Vietnam, for a greener and healthier future. This year, our program is increasingly encouraging students and their families to use sustainable means of transport – paving the way for healthier and greener cities as well as promoting safe and sustainable mobility.
Celebrating all of our highlights this year, we are sincerely grateful for the support of our donors, partners, and friends who share our vision of safe mobility for all. Thank you for your continued support in making our work possible, and please know that your generosity never goes unnoticed.
Let’s pave the way to a greener and more sustainable future for all.
Please read on.
Sincerely,
Mirjam Sidik
