Global Newsletter – JULY 2023

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Within the blink of an eye, the summer season is upon us! Children and adults alike rush outside to enjoy the summery days and nights in different corners of the world. Millions of people gather with their families and friends to travel and reunite with their loved ones. Mobility is what makes these wonderful reunions possible.

In the spirit of taking road safety and mobility to the next level, the Vision Zero Conference 2023 was held in Stockholm, Sweden, in late June. The conference served as a platform for international knowledge sharing, capacity building, and promoting Vision Zero on our roads. It welcomed high-level representatives from government authorities, international organizations, private sector, academia, policymakers, NGOs, and municipalities to advocate for a world with zero road injuries and fatalities.

Following the Vision Zero Conference, the first ever Global Network of Heads of Road Safety Agencies Meeting 2023 took place. The meeting aimed to aid countries in implementing their road safety strategies in line with the Global Plan of Action for the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030.

Youth are at the heart of creating a better future for all of us, and we were so excited to join the Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety in celebrating its 3rd Anniversary on 7th July! In just three years, the Coalition has built an amazing community of 1800 members from 117 countries.

In our region of the world, we continue to advocate for safe mobility for all. In Phnom Penh, Cambodia, we hosted an annual collaborative workshop to share best practices empowering Cambodian workers to self-advocate for their right to access work safely as part of the Prevention & Participation program. In Kampong Thom Province, students were equipped with skills and knowledge to be safe road users as part of the  SAFE STEPS – Road Safety programme.

We also keep learning to bring the best in our programs. Our colleages from Vietnam, Nga Duong, Program Manager, and Trang Truong, Senior Program Manager at AIP Foundation, recently attended the Global Road Safety Leadership Course that took place between 7th – 19th May. This course aims to build leadership capacity to design, advocate for, and implement effective road safety programs and policies.

As the summer months continue, we remain steadfast in our work to contribute to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. With the SDG Summit 2023 around the corner, we are more motivated than ever.

Join us, and please read on.

Sincerely,

Mirjam Sidik
