Dear Friends and Supporters,
The time has almost come again!
It seems hardly believable that two years have passed since we joined the international community in calling for 30km/h speed limits and #StreetsForLife across the world as part of the 6th UN Global Road Safety Week (UNGRSW). The upcoming UNGRSW 2023 forms part of a worldwide movement mobilizing people across the world to advocate for safe mobility.
This 7th edition of the global campaign, under the theme of #RethinkMobility, focuses on sustainable transport, in particular, the need to shift to cycling, walking, and using public transport. The ultimate goal is to ensure that modes of transportation, such as biking and walking, are made safe and accessible so that they can be used as a healthy alternative.
In this spirit, we hosted a Community Bike Day in April 2023 to kick-start safe and sustainable mobility-promoting activities. Over 1,000 community members were brought together to speak up on safe mobility and take action for greener streets across their city. Engaging decision-makers is at the heart of our work. Since the establishment in 2018 of a steering committee in Pleiku, made up of local decision and policymakers committed to making the city a safer place for all, we are proud to share that we have engaged these local government and decision-makers to support safe mobility to kickstart the 7th UNGRSW.
Lê Nguyễn Bảo Ngọc, Miss Intercontinental 2022, who has also been named Ambassador for Earth Day in Vietnam, joined young students in cycling across the city and supporting safe and green mobility. If you’re looking for impactful ideas to hold a UNGRSW 2023 event, you can check out the awesome materials by The World Health Organization and the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety.
Our AIP Foundation team was delighted to join the Delft Road Safety Course (DRSC) in the Netherlands. The five-day sessions of the Course brought together road safety professionals from around the world to take part in the first in-person DRSC since 2019. The DRSC offers road safety leadership training & capacity building for professionals to empower them to be the lead to impact the changes that they wish to see in their communities.
We are proud to work with our network of dedicated partners who share our vision of a world with safe mobility. With partners and friends like you, we know that we can achieve the goals set out by the Second Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030 to reduce road injuries and fatalities by 50%.
Our time for action is now. Let’s #RethinkMoblity together!
Please read on.
Sincerely,
Mirjam Sidik
