Dear Friends and Supporters,
This month, we are extremely proud to celebrate five years of the
Slow Zones, Safe Zones program and its impact in prioritizing safe school zones to safeguard every child’s journey to school across Vietnam. Since its launch in 2018, the
Slow Zones, Safe Zones program has benefited 130,492 people directly, and 16,189,096 beneficiaries were indirectly reached.
As part of the Botnar Child Road Safety Challenge and in recognition of the International Walk to School Month, a data visualization platform has been developed and launched. It contains case studies, road safety landscapes, and more useful information. Check it out today!
Building on the national expansion and success of the
Slow Zones, Safe Zones program, the government – in partnership with the FIA Foundation and AIP Foundation – started the development of the
Safe School Zones Vietnam Guide (SSZ Guide) in 2021.
We are now pleased to share that the
SSZ Guide was endorsed by the Ministry of Transport as the first national reference material on safe school zones. A national workshop on the
SSZ Guide was organized for all transport stakeholders in Vietnam, including 63 Department of Transportation representatives from across the country who learned how to apply it in their own province in October 2023.
On a community level, we are championing international collaboration to leverage regional strengths for safer school zones across Asia Pacific together with the FIA Foundation and iRAP. This new complimentary program aims to give ready-to-use knowledge and tools to the FIA Region II Clubs, starting with Star Ratings for Schools. This program also provides an opportunity for one of the clubs in the region to receive funding to drive change in their country.
As part of our innovative Big Data road safety program,
AI&Me: Empowering youth for safer roads, we are excited to launch the ‘Cung Đường Biết Nói’ – AIP Foundation x DATMANIAC (feat. CAM) I Youth Act for Safer Roads music video by hosting an
AI&Me Road Safety Challenge Day for students. The aim of the Road Safety Challenge Day was to use music to raise road safety awareness among students and empower them to speak up to be heard by the local government through a Youth Engagement App (YEA).
In October 2023, we were also delighted to attend the highly anticipated Global Forum for Adolescents 2023. The GFA united young people in the largest-ever gathering for adolescent well-being. In case you missed it, you can watch our joint key session with partners on ‘Driving Change: Youth engagement for improved road safety’.
Putting youth voices at the heart of solving global mobility challenges, we are proud to be a YOURS - Youth for Road Safety dissemination partner for their ongoing online campaign encouraging youth to raise their voices and fill out the Youth Consultation 2023. You can fill out the consultation here. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to share your thoughts and ideas on road safety issues in your community!
Sincerely,
Mirjam Sidik
