Dear Friends and Supporters,
This has been an exciting month as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Summit took place on 18-19 September 2023. It marked the beginning of a new phase of accelerated progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals with high-level guidance on transformative and accelerated actions leading up to 2030.
We joined road safety advocates around the world in the open letter to Heads of State and Governments penned by the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety. The letter urges world leaders to take action to reduce road traffic deaths and injuries by 50% by 2030 by rethinking mobility. This is done by allocating funds to proven interventions and involving people and communities—youth, women, and other overlooked road users—in decisions that affect them to make our streets safe and inclusive for all.
Building on the momentum of the SDG Summit, the highly anticipated Global Forum for Adolescents 2023 is around the corner. Aiming to unite young people in the largest-ever gathering for adolescent well-being, the Global Forum for Adolescents is part of the 1point8 campaign. Together with our partners, we are delighted to be hosting a joint key session on ‘Driving Change: Youth engagement for improved road safety.’ Don’t miss out on the biggest youth-led event of the year and register to attend now!
Further empowering youth in Vietnam, we are delighted to announce that the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) is receiving USD$2 million in grant funding and additional support from Google’s philanthropic arm, Google.org, to provide children with a safer journey to school. AIP Foundation is proud to be the Vietnam lead partner for this initiative to ensure students are safe on their way to and from school across the country.
In Thailand, secondary school students across Songkhla Province celebrated Road Safety Week 2023. They were not only demanding safe streets and safe mobility, but they were going to be the ones to deliver it. As part of the model road safety school in Songkhla province, the student council is leading the way to ensure that all students at the school have access to safe and sustainable road safety education.
Our dedication to saving lives is being kept alive thanks to inspiring leaders. So, it is with a heavy heart that we send our very best wishes and heartfelt condolences to the family of Zoleka Mandela. Zoleka, thank you for your dedication to making safe mobility a reality for every child and youth around the world. We will miss your inspiring, motivational, and passionate speeches. You will forever remain our inspiration to make the world a better and safer place.
Join us, and please read on.
Sincerely,
Mirjam Sidik
