Global Newsletter – July/August 2022

Dear Friends and Supporters,

As poignantly stated in the September 2022 newsletter sent out by the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety, we have a little over 3,000 days left until the end of the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021 - 2030.

In order to make this Decade of Action truly count and meet our target of reducing death and injuries on the road by 50% by 2030, we must work together.

The time for collaborative and decisive action is now.

The national and local governments in Vietnam were awarded the Prince Michael International Road Safety Award and the Vision Zero for Youth Leadership Award for their impressive and collaborative work in Pleiku City, which now serves as a model for safe school zones nationwide.

We are thrilled to celebrate the successful collaboration between our partners, donors, stakeholders, and government who are helping us to make #StreetsforLife a reality in Pleiku.

This month, we were particularly honored to co-host the FIA Region II Roundtable in Hanoi, Vietnam bringing together over 60 delegates from 19 countries. Mobility and Road Safety were key topics explored by delegates with impactful presentations from our partners at the FIA Foundation and iRAP.

Acting together for a safer future also means engaging with future young leaders and decision-makers. AIP Foundation Founder and President and FIA Region II President Greig Craft was at the forefront of sharing his knowledge and experience with the young leaders at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam

Sharing our lessons learned from the field is a great way to collaborate together to solve the global road safety crisis. We are so proud of our global team who traveled and presented at high-level conferences around the world, including the Australasian Road Safety Conference, the Walk21 International Conference on Walkable and Livable Communities, and the National Dialogue on Road Safety for Children in India. To us, this is at the core of our work and we are already excited to attend the The Roads & Traffic Expo Thailand 2022 in October!

On the ground, in India, students at the Lilavati High School created a video for road safety awareness as part of the Safety Delivered program, supported by the UPS Foundation. We are grateful for our collaboration with the Western Indian Automobile Association and the school officials for their commitment to safe mobility for youth in India.

It is almost one year since the launch of the Global Plan as part of the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021- 2030. On October 27th, we will be attending the Global Plan: on target or off track? Webinar hosted by the Global Alliance to celebrate the success of our work so far and pave the way for the work that is yet to come. Will you join us?

Please read on.

Sincerely,

Mirjam Sidik

 BEYOND

We are loving the new trend! In order to take action, we must engage all citizens and stakeholders. Across the globe, many organizations use tactical urbanism to showcase and demonstrate the need for road safety and infrastructure improvement in their cities.
