Dear Friends and Supporters,
As the pandemic continues to worsen in our region, we are all faced with defining a ‘new normal’ in our lives. For us, this has meant being physically far apart from one another yet being close together. Across diverse cities and countries in South-East Asia we are united by our common goal to advocate for vulnerable road users of all ages around the world.
AIP Foundation Founder and President, Mr. Greig Craft embodied this united spirit as he spoke up for millions of people affected by the road safety crisis during his keynote speech at the Purpose Day - Road Safety event hosted by Mercedes-Benz and World Economic Forum. Mr. Greig Craft was further honored to represent AIP Foundation and AA Vietnam at the FIA Conference 2021 held in Monaco.
On the second day of the conference, I led a presentation on how the safe system approach was successfully implemented in Pleiku City, Vietnam through the
Slow Zones, Safe Zones program and how it can be applied globally to safeguard children everywhere. AIP Foundation Development and Strategic Partnerships Manager, Mr. Jimmy Tang and Development Assistant, Ms. Khe Nguyen were featured in the FIA Young Voices video, highlighting their perspectives on the future of mobility alongside other young leaders from around the world on the closing day of the conference.
Mr. Jimmy Tang also joined top safety experts and partners at Safe Kids Worldwide Childhood Injury Prevention Convention where he presented on safety interventions to protect pedestrians, cyclists, and teen drivers in China through the
Walk Wise program.
We are honored to celebrate our nine-year partnership with Chevron, where together we served nearly half a million people through our
Walk Wise road safety program in China. The program’s incredible accomplishments were published in the Lookback Report 2011 - 2020 and highlighted in our video. Thank you, Chevron for contributing to sustainable change for future safety in these communities.
In collaboration with the National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC) we hosted the first in a range of workshops, as part of the nationwide campaign amending road laws in Vietnam, supported by the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) and the Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI).
As we define a ‘new normal’ in a changing world, we can be certain that one thing remains unaltered; our united goal to serve vulnerable communities.
Please read on.
Sincerely,
Mirjam Sidik
CEO, AIP Foundation

AIP Foundation Founder and President speaks up for millions affected by the global road safety crisis

AIP Foundation Founder and President, Mr. Greig Craft, delivers keynote speech at Purpose Day - Road Safety.
|
|
Mr. Greig Craft, Founder and President of AIP Foundation, an international road safety non-profit organization kicks off Purpose Day - Road Safety, hosted by Mercedes-Benz and World Economic Forum, with a keynote speech.
Mr. Craft began his speech by humanizing road safety, highlighting how this issue has been treated in isolation for far too long. He asked stakeholders to question why this global road crisis hasn't been treated with the same urgency as COVID-19 despite the millions in fatalities and injuries vulnerable communities face each year. "We have the resources available. We have extensive research published. And we have several road safety 'vaccines' available to mitigate this hidden epidemic," shared Mr. Craft. He went on to conclude that we must act now, not later.
As part of their ongoing commitment to increasing road safety, Mercedes-Benz Urban Mobility Solutions and World Economic Forum collaborated on delivering an invite-only, closed event, where stakeholders from different sectors of the transport industry gathered to contribute to a global vision of zero traffic fatalities.

Nearly half a million people served through Chevron's Walk Wise road safety program in China
CHENGDU, China - July 21, 2021
|
Students celebrate National Road Safety Day in 2018.
|
AIP Foundation celebrates nine-years of partnership with Chevron, investing in vulnerable communities by providing road safety interventions through their signature
Walk Wise program. Through targeted education, nearly 160,000 students in two provinces in China benefited from learning life-saving safety skills as road users. The powerful impact of
Walk Wise led to a 26% decrease in reported accidents involving students from the local community.
Walk Wise demonstrated its success early on as it tested, revised, and scaled up the introduction of life-saving road safety curriculum, from its initial two pilot schools in 2012 to 102 schools by 2019. The curriculum was developed from the ground up, with cooperation from local teachers, insightful input from the community and field expertise to address the immediate needs of children, parents, and school staff. The program also promoted safer journeys for children and community members through 1,194 road infrastructure modifications, which increased proper crosswalk usage from 43% to 80%.
"With the support of Chevron, our program ensures that even the youngest road users become positive role models at school and home," shared Mr. Greig Craft, Founder and President of AIP Foundation.
To ensure sustainable change for the future safety of communities,
Walk Wise has combined the influence of comprehensive road safety education, impactful investments in infrastructure, public awareness campaigns, and empowerment of its local partners, to change the perceptions and attitudes of communities.
