Top Ten (Twelve!) Tabling Tips
Recruitment season is here! Chapters across the country decorate the sidewalks of their campuses and universities trying to attract the potential members to Alpha Phi Omega. Here are our Top Ten Tips to help guide you as you plan your tabling events this fall.
1. Be Visual!
Bring passing students to your table with fun posters, banners and chalk art. (Banners are available at
shop.apo.org!)
2. Bring Treats!
Engage potential members in a conversation through inexpensive treats with “Alpha Phi Omega” written or taped on it (popsicles, iced tea, lemonade or candy).
3. Make it Memorable!
Play music, stomp, bring a well-behaved puppy or... juggle.
4. Get Out There!
Have at least one brother stand in front of the table or go out into the crowd to draw students to your information - this will help them feel comfortable.
5. Show Diversity!
Be sure brothers working the table are reflective of the chapter and campus diversity. Represent different years in school, genders, ethnicity, majors, etc.
6. Have Handouts!
Pass out flyers with more information and dates for upcoming information sessions, as well as a business card with chapter contact information.
7. Be in the Know!
Make sure brothers working the table are engaging and comfortable asking and answering questions. Ask what it would take for them to join and share what makes APO different from other campus organizations.
8. Collect Info and Use It!
Have a laptop, tablet or paper so you can collect contact information for interested students. Be sure to follow up with interested students within a week, and reach out a few times a year with dates for upcoming information sessions and service projects.
9. Represent APO!
Wear appropriate APO apparel with the Fraternity’s name spelled out - potential members might not recognize the Greek letters or the Crest if they see it around campus. (Gear from licensed vendors can be ordered through
greeklicensing.com.)
10. Evaluate!
After a tabling event, bring the chapter together to talk about what worked and what might need to be done differently next time.
