Dear Subscriber

Spring is finally here and with it comes great weather and the chance to get outside and provide service in your communities. Chapters across the nation will get out April 15-17 for Spring Youth Service Week, a weekend-long event in partnership with Youth Service America's Global Youth Service Day.

Thanks to the generous donations of our alumni, there will be 26 chapters performing Spring Youth Service Day projects with the help of funding from the Youth Service Grant. Check out the article below to see a list of the chapters that were awarded this grant.

A few maintenance items are also included in this e-newsletter, so be sure to read closely! Alumni Association renewals and Pledge Class Namesake nominations are coming up quick and we want you to be prepared to meet these important deadlines.

Happy Spring!

March Video of the Month: Theta Chapter at the University of Virginia

Here's a fantastic recruitment video from Theta Chapter at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville!

Do you know a chapter that is working hard to create fun, informational and educational videos for recruitment, etc.? Share their efforts with brothers across the nation by nominating them for the April Video of the Month. Send a link of the video to the Alumni Connection Editorial Team.

Alumni Association Renewals Due May 15

To be officially recognized as an APO alumni association, your alumni association must renew its status annually. Renewals are due by May 15 for the 2011 annual recognition year! Please submit your renewal form along with the $25 annual fee to the National Office.

Is there not an alumni association near you? Consider starting one in your area! To find out how, visit the Alumni Association area on our website for additional information.

Congrats Youth Service Grant Recipients!

Congratulations to the following 26 chapters that received the 2010-11 Youth Service Grant. This grant gives chapters the funding they need to develop/conduct a service project that meets a particular need and benefits local youth. The grant money helps chapters cover the cost of items they need in order to successfully perform the project. The Alpha Phi Omega Endowment Trust facilitates the funding for this special program.

Submit Your Nomination for Fall Pledge Class Namesake Honoree by May 1

Do you know a brother, organization or influential nonmember who reflects the Fraternity's Cardinal Principles of Leadership, Friendship and Service? If so, consider nominating them for the 2011 Fall Pledge Class Namesake Honoree.

The criteria used in considering nominations are:

  • For nominees whose accomplishments are within the Fraternity (including chapter advisors), we are looking for those who have had a significant and positive impact at the regional level, at minimum, over a sustained period of time.
  • For those nominated for work outside of Alpha Phi Omega, we are looking for persons who have had a comparable impact at the national level, over a sustained period of time.

While deceased individuals and groups of people or organizations may be nominated, preference is given to living and individual nominees.
