8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.
|
Carroll Institute will be offering two one-week intensive courses during the week of May 16-20. Crisis and Trauma Counseling will be taught by Dr. Scott Floyd at First Baptist Church, Burleson, Texas. The course is designed to prepare students for ministry and counseling opportunities following crisis or trauma events. Students will study the biblical basis for crisis caregiving and practical, effective ways to intervene when an individual, family, or community experiences traumatic circumstances. Students will receive three units of graduate credit for the course. The class is also available for those who may be interested in auditing the class as Readers. For more information regarding this course, please contact Dr. Scott Floyd (sfloyd@bhcti.org or call 817-274-4284, Ext. 39).
Ethnodoxology in Christian Ministry is a course being offered on the campus of Ouchita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. This course will introduce theoretical and practical tools for church planters and worship facilitators to serve more effectively in cross-cultural worship ministry, whether overseas or in multi-ethnic North American churches. It covers the missiological framework for music and arts in multicultural and cross-cultural church contexts, field research and interviewing, analysis of song lyrics, models for research and practice, and a body of worship music from diverse world music traditions. Music reading skills are not a requirement for the course. Two units of graduate credit will be given to Carroll Institute students who participate in the course.
Non-BHCTI students may apply for transient credit by contacting Fran Wilson, Director of Admissions: fwilson@bhcti.org or by calling (817) 274-4284, Ext. 21. A workshop option is also available. For more information regarding the course and registration, please click on the following:

USING BIBLICAL STORYTELLING
in CHURCH and COMMUNITY
Online Course
Dr. Grant Lovejoy, coordinator of Orality Strategies (International Mission Board, SBC) will be teaching the course “Using Biblical Storytelling in Church and Community” as an online course during the Omega Term 2011. Registration for this course opens March 4.
In the course, participants will develop a customized set of biblical stories for an audience and purpose of their choosing. Biblical storytelling has been used effectively in many settings:
* Cross-cultural church planting among adherents of each of the major religions
* Evangelism and church planting among postmodern, irreligious people
* Home discipleship groups
* ESL/TESOL classes
* Community health empowerment initiatives
* Pastoral training and theological education
* Bible study curriculum for all age groups
* Women’s support groups
* Marriage enrichment series
* Preaching
Ideally the group selected for this project will be in the participants’ current ministry settings or one they expect to work with in the near future. Participants will select a worldview-sensitive set of biblical stories and prepare them for use among their chosen group. They will develop their skills in biblical storytelling, and articulate a plan for further growth in their knowledge and skills.
Each participant will provide a videotape of their storytelling as part of the teaching-learning-evaluation process.
Missionaries and others not currently enrolled in BHCTI may participate in the class. For details concerning transient student application, contact Mrs. Fran Wilson at fwilson@bhcti.org or call 817-274-4284, Ext. 21.
