How do you define academic integrity? Which strategies do you use to promote academic integrity in your online courses? What authentication options do educators have and what are their advantages? Come to this session to engage in a discussion about current trends in academic integrity related to online course design and facilitation. Participants will see examples of how to embed authentication strategies into course activities and discuss technologies for authentication. Case study examples will be provided where one authentication technology, BioSig-ID, has been successfully implemented.

Meeting Federal & Accreditation Requirements for Online Student Verification
We've been speaking with schools from coast-to-coast regarding the changing student verification requirements from the Department of Education and their school accreditation organizations and wanted to hear your thoughts.
How will you know if you meet the new requirements? Most interviewers will be looking for the institution to show that the same student who submits assignments, takes exams, and earns a final grade is the same one who enrolled in that course.

BioSig-ID Audit Trail Captures Fraud Activity
BioSig-ID's audit trail function which captures users’ activity has recently been used to validate suspicious behavior and perhaps even a "fraud ring" operating on the East Coast. Having access to this information will help institutions feel confident that they can minimize and/or eliminate cheating by students using BioSig-ID and increase their confidence in their school's academic integrity.
BioSig-ID does not violate privacy laws and only captures basic information about the user and couples that with their IP location, time, date, and all interactions attempted with verifications. BioSig-ID has been 3rd party tested to be 99.97% accurate in keeping out impostors and with the audit trail can provide the analytics needed to maintain the high standards institutions need to meet for accreditation and federal regulations.

We're looking forward to seeing you at an upcoming conference or speaking with you further in an online meeting about your academic integrity issues.
Cheers,
The BSI Team

Continued Participation in the Cross-Sector Digital Identity Project
“The National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC) charts a course for the public and private sectors to collaborate to raise the level of trust associated with the identities of individuals, organizations, networks, services, and devices involved in online transactions” -
excerpt from the April 2011 White House publication on NSTIC.
Microsoft has been facilitating a Cross-Sector Digital Identity Project Proof of Concept (POC) in order to demonstrate public/private interoperability within a NSTIC system that reflects core guiding principles for securing transactions on the Internet, improving the public’s awareness and control of personal information, and stimulating the growth of online commerce.
Key participants include major public corporations, federal government agencies, state government agencies and private businesses.
There have been several meetings including at the recent RSA Conference in San Francisco where the group has started socializing this new project with other prospective groups who would be future adopters of this technology.
