Important message to Libyan Students regarding
Health Insurance Coverage

Libyan Students in the United States,

Current events on the ground in Libya have resulted in ongoing delays in transferring essential scholarship budgets from Libya to CBIE. As such, we are writing today to provide students with an important update regarding your health insurance coverage.

As indicated in our message to students dated January 16th, to-date CBIE has not yet received the health insurance budget for August 2014 – February 2015. If CBIE does not receive a transfer of funds by the end of February, UnitedHealthcare (UHC) International will regrettably be required to terminate the current policy effective February 28, 2015.

CBIE is in communication with all key stakeholders and is working currently with the Ministry of Higher Education and the Embassy in Washington D.C. to find solutions to this urgent issue. In the meantime, it is important for students to understand that the program currently does not have sufficient funds to extend health insurance past February 28, 2015 unless we receive the requested insurance budget from Libya this month.

CBIE has learned that some Cultural Offices abroad have been forced to take similar measures under the circumstances. We certainly hope that we will receive the required budgets this month, but we strongly advise students to begin researching the various health insurance options that are available in the event that the insurance funds are not transferred during the month of February.

CBIE will continue to keep you apprised of any new developments.

Sincerely,
The Libyan-North American Scholarship Program
