Important News regarding the Funding Status of the
Libyan-North American Scholarship Program

March 5th, 2015

CBIE has recently shared with you the challenges that the Libyan-North American Scholarship Program (LNASP) is facing due to the delay in receiving various budget requirements from Libya, and we are writing to update you in this regard.

On March 4th and 5th, 2015, CBIE’s President and CEO, Karen McBride, and Vice-President for International Partnerships, Dr. Basel Alashi, held a series of meetings in Istanbul with senior level officials from key Libyan authorities that play a role in the flow of funds supporting the LNASP, including the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Dr. Saddeq El-Kebir.

The purpose of the meetings was to discuss the urgent need for installing an effective mechanism to ensure the timely transfer of funds covering major program expenses, including health insurance, tuition, and monthly living allowances.

The discussions were very productive, and Libyan officials expressed their understanding of the challenges faced,  the urgency of the situation, as well as their commitment to work together to resolve these issues as soon as possible.

CBIE will continue to follow up with the relevant Libyan authorities in order to facilitate the transfer of required funds, and we will keep you apprised of any new developments.

Sincerely,
Libyan-North American Scholarship Program
