As we celebrate Caribe's 1 year anniversary this month, we couldn't be more honored to receive a CityPages Best Of award. Huge thanks to all of our staff; we couldn't have done this alone!

Oliver loves pinon


One of our favorite customers, Oliver, was so excited about the Piñon, he came in to have it for lunch and dinner on the SAME DAY!

No joke. We love you, Oliver! Yes, Piñon had to take a vacation for a while as Tony fought to find a reliable source for ripened plantains, a key ingredient in Piñon, a layered Puerto Rican casserole. No easy task in MN. But alas, persistence paid off, and Piñon is back; not only for dinner, but now for lunch, too.

And speaking of persistence, customers have been requesting (OK, I'lll be honest, BEGGING for) Mofongo for over a year now. Whether it was Tony giving in to demand or just feeling up to the task one day this week, Mofongo made it's debut as a lunch special. And then a dinner special the same night, lunch the next day, and so on. It's selling like crazy, and the cooks are getting the hang of it. I'll write more on what mofongo is in an upcoming blog post, but in a nutshell, it's very tricky to make. Nonetheless, we have plans to add it to the lunch and dinner menu in the near future. Until then, watch for it as specials.



DOLE Caribe VIP Dinner

April showers brings...bananas!

The folks from DOLE Bananas caught wind of Caribe's interesting uses of bananas in the menu, and, as part of their "Go Bananas After Dark" tour, they've asked Caribe to partake in the Twin Cites stop of their tour.

We're excited to help DOLE show local food bloggers and the banana-loving public that bananas aren’t just for breakfast and lunch anymore! Tony's agreed to be a local spokesperson for DOLE when they're in town, doing various TV & media appearances & talking about all the wonderful uses for bananas.

And on Thursday, May 26th at 6:00pm, we will host a VIP media event, featuring a four course, banana-centric dinner menu created by Tony Panelli, and some new signature banana drinks (alcohol) to enjoy that evening. The dinner is for a select group of Twin Cities food bloggers, food writers, and media to get the word out about creative ways to enjoy bananas...after dark.

But wait! We thought, nobody's really more "VIP" to us than our own customers! Our supporters! You! So we requested that we be allowed to give away a couple tickets to OUR VIP's.

And two tickets we have!

We've been so busy lately, I haven't had time to snap a new photo of Tony and me together since the last newsletter! So you'll have to deal with this one again :-) Such is the crazy life of running a restaurant start-up.
