"New" doors worth the wait
Tony's had the idea of swinging doors for quite some time. I'm happy to say, we finally found the perfect pair of old, antique barn shutters that we recycled into "new" doors for our entry way! Heidi and her dad transformed the dirty old shutters into functional tropical-themed décor.

But the doors aren't the only new addition to the dinning room.
Notice anything else?

A Dinner to Remember

On Monday, Feb. 14th we'll be dressing up the dining room for a romantic Valentine's Day dinner. In place of our regular dinner menu, we've prepared a prix fixe tasting menu with optional wine pairings to accompany each course.

New house-made condiment:
Puerto Rican
"Pique" Hot Sauce

We make ours, & you can make your own at home, too!

It looks like a bunch of stuff floating in liquid in a pretty glass bottle. If you haven't tried it yet (and like it hot!), you're in for a treat.

Pique ("PEE'-kay") is actually less of a sauce and more of a vinegar-oil mixture, infused with the flavors of sliced hot peppers, garlic, pineapple rind and other yummy stuff to suit your tastes. The longer it sits, the hotter it gets.

The condiment is popular in Puerto Rico, where you'll find it on the tables of many restaurants.

You can easily make your own at home, and with thousands of variations, there is no wrong way to make it. Although I couldn't get Tony to share his "secret recipe" (which, quite frankly changes from batch to batch) here is a similar, basic pique recipe you can try at home.

Try the above recipe, or do a simple Google search for "Puerto Rican Pique" or "Pique Criollo" or "Pique recipe" and you'll find plenty of variations to come up with your own secret blend.

Then all that's left to do is figure out what to eat it with!

Sprinkle over steak, rice, fish, beans, meat, eggs, breadfruit fries...the sky's the limit!
