US 6 Clear Creek and Summit Counties

Clear Creek and Summit COUNTIES —  The Colorado Department of Transportation's Whole System-Whole Safety program to improve U.S. 6 over Loveland Pass is scheduled to begin June 24, 2019.

The project will include culvert replacement, milling and pavement overlay, guardrail replacement, and new pavement markings on 11.2 miles of U.S. 6 between the Loveland Ski Area and Keystone. The improvements are part of a statewide initiative to provide functional accessibility to all travelers using our state and U.S. highways, and will greatly enhance safety for drivers and recreationalists who use this two-lane highway.

The project was contracted to APC Southern Construction, of Golden, for $4.6 million dollars and is expected to be completed in October 2019.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS

Project work hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. (daylight hours), Monday through Friday. Motorists should allow for travel delays up to 20 minutes, as traffic will be reduced to an alternating single-lane through the work zone. Please note that trucks will be held within the active construction work zone, with regular traffic, to minimize delays for them as they move through the area. Additionally, to enhance safety, when crews are working on the west side of the pass, all tanker trucks will be briefly stopped at the top of the pass to ensure safe travel speeds down the other side in coordination with stopped traffic. Motorists traveling on U.S. 6 will find the speed limit reduced through areas of active construction during work hours and are asked to use caution when approaching and driving through the work zone.  In addition, vehicles will be restricted to a maximum width of 10 feet during work hours.
