Act Now to Ensure that Qualified and Safe Truckdrivers are on Our Highways

We need your help NOW to ensure safe and professional truckdrivers on our highways.

In the past week,  the Colorado House Judiciary Committee amended Senate Bill 28, concerning penalties involving the operation of a commercial vehicle.  The committee downgraded the penalty for failure to have a Commercial Driver's License (CDL)  to a mere traffic infraction carrying a maximum fine of $100 with a $15 surcharge. This would make the penalty for failing to have a CDL, the same as a person driving a Toyota Prius without a license even though the truck weighs 20 times greater. It would also mean that Colorado would have the lowest penalty in the country for this offense.

The action by the House Judiciary Committee acts to diminish the importance and value of being a professional truckdriver and places the public at risk.   It also provides a green light to bad actors and the companies that may hire them as they view this as a cost of doing business and are out on the highway the very next day without ever obtaining a CDL.

Navigating a tractor-trailer that is over 70’ in length and weighing 80,000 pounds requires a great degree of expertise and is not something that everyone can do. Doing this job safely involves having the proper training, mindset, and skills. In Colorado, the importance of having a CDL may be greater than in almost any state in the country.

We are asking for your assistance NOW in asking legislators to restore  SB 28 back to the form it was in the Senate with the greater penalty that is the standard across the country.

Connecting to the Future: Broadway Corridor Study

Broadway between I-25 and Highlands Ranch Parkway is a vibrant corridor where people live, work, learn, and play. This 11-mile stretch of Broadway provides local and regional connections through the City and County of Denver, Arapahoe County, Douglas County, the cities of Englewood, Littleton, and Centennial. The City of Littleton is partnering with these agencies to study the transportation and land use conditions along this section of Broadway.

The study will establish a cohesive vision for the corridor’s future and identify improvements that will celebrate and connect the unique identities of the surrounding communities, foster economic vibrancy, provide safe and comfortable spaces, and support regional mobility options for all.

Your Voice Matters!
Visit the City of Littleton’s self-guided online meeting to learn more. Your feedback will help shape the future of Broadway.

Please watch the promotional video above and contribute to ATRI's data collection.

Each participating fleet will receive a customized report comparing their fleet’s data to peer carriers of the same sector and size.  These customized reports were very popular last year and we’re hopeful that we’ll get the majority of last year’s participants submitting data this year.

The deadline for data submitted to ATRI is Friday, April 28, 2023.
