TRUCKING FAMILY LOSES FRIEND
Eric Parker, ATA’s Vice President of Membership Sales, passed away Monday.  Eric, the son of Nancy and the late David Parker, grew up in the trucking industry, which is where he spent the last 31 years working.  His passion, kindness and knowledge of trucking left a lasting impression on everyone he met.  Eric’s humor, love of the outdoors and love for his family was contagious. Parker served as the NTA Regional ATA Representative and his father was a former NTA Chairman. During his college years, Eric started at JTI, Inc. in Lincoln as a driver manager and accountant.  He stayed at JTI as it was acquired by US Xpress, and worked his way up to Terminal Manager in 2001.  Eric’s career led him to Bullocks Express in Denver, Colorado to Jim Palmer and back to US Xpress until 2015.  He worked at C.H. Robinson as a Senior Sales Executive prior to joining the ATA team.  Eric truly enjoyed helping customers grow and getting their products delivered on time. He loved learning new things and gaining extensive knowledge of the industry. Eric joined ATA in November 2016 as a regional sales representative and in early 2019, was promoted to lead the membership sales team.  Eric helped grow and shape our membership portfolio, and was a tremendous resource to our members. Eric grew up in Nebraska and moved to Boulder, Colorado in 2002.  He loved the mountains and hiking with his family, and was an avid runner. Eric is preceded in death by his father David R. Parker in January of this year.  (Information provided by Chris Spear, President of ATA)

Employee Screening for COVID 19 Revised

Recently CMCA worked with the Governor's Office and other senior administration officials modify the employee screening process as outlined in the original  Governor's Safer at Home Order.  That order would have required companies to screen all employees daily on-site prior to starting the work day. and as part of that process take the temperatures of all employees and ask about any other symptoms that may indicate COVID-19.

For many of our companies this would have been very onerous, costly, time-consuming, and probably not even possible based on shortage of thermometers.   Our team worked over the prior weekend with state officials and our members on the matter because many companies would have been required to implement the screening today.  This culminated in a conference call on Sunday - 10 days ago where are members did a great job of outlining that our companies have been in the COVID environment for the past 45 days and already developed some best practices which have acted to protect their employees and customers. They further outlined issues and concerns with the policy as well as an alternative which placed the responsibility more on the employee to do a self-check for symptoms prior to coming to work along with some training of our supervisors on recognizing signs of symptoms of COVID in employees.

Based on that conference call meeting and additional discussion, the State agreed to change the screening policy and while it still states that "best practices would be to conduct on site,  it now notes the following " Best practice is to implement a temperature check station at the entrance to the business. If this is not feasible, employee will check for symptoms at home and report symptoms either electronically or on paper per the system created by the business"  This language recognizes that for many of our businesses, on-site screening is not practical or feasible and instead allows for self-checks by employees. This change was in sync with our suggestions and we very much appreciate CDOT Director Shoshana Lew for her assistance and John Putnam with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

Along with this, they have provided an updated sample symptom tracker.
