TSA announces HME and TWIC fee reductions

The Transportation Security Administration is reducing fees on its Hazardous Materials Endorsement and Transportation Worker Identification Credential programs. TSA says it reviewed fee revenues and found them to exceed the total cost to administer the programs, obligating the agency to adjust the fee structure.

TSA announced the following changes:

  • The fee for online TWIC renewals will drop to $117.25.
  • The fee for an eligible reduced-fee TWIC enrollment will drop from $105.25 to $93. Certain individuals with active HMEs are eligible for reduced-fee TWIC enrollment.
  • The fee for an eligible reduced-fee HME enrollment will drop from $67 to $41. Certain individuals with active TWICs are eligible for reduced-fee HME enrollment.

The announced changes DO NOT impact the following fees:

  • The fee for in-person TWIC enrollments will remain the same at $125.25.
  • The fee for in-person TWIC renewals will remain the same at $125.25.
  • The fee for in-person HME enrollments will remain the same at $86.50.
  • The fee for in-person HME renewals will remain the same at $86.50.

ATA has been working closely with TSA and Congress to harmonize and streamline TWIC and HME credentialing, and we see these fee reductions as an important first step to improving this process. However, we strongly believe more must be done to alleviate the bureaucratic and financial burden placed on drivers by these programs. That's why we continue to advocate for the TSA Security Threat Assessment Application Modernization Act, working with our champions in Congress to advance this piece of legislation.

Employer Compliance Requirements for 2023

Dear Members,

The Family Leave Act will officially begin on January 1, 2023.  It provides for up to 12 weeks of partial wage replacement to take care of family members.  It will be jointly funded by a payroll tax on all employees with an employee match for employers of 10 or more.  While funding of the program begins in January, 2023, benefit payments would not start until 2024.  Employers who currently have a family leave program may opt out of the state program if the benefits match or exceed those required by the state.

We encourage all of you to join us and learn more about this new program and how you may comply with this new legal requirement.

Please RSVP at the number below letting us know if you can join us.  Thank you.

What if an employer doesn’t comply? Employers in Colorado will want to stay on top of their Colorado employer requirements, as penalties for non-compliance can add up quickly.
