Hair Testing Guidelines

As you may recall, ATA has serious concerns with regard to the recent hair testing guidelines released by the SAMHSA/HHS. These guidelines, as is, would require a second, alternative urine or oral fluids specimen (or other supporting evidence) in the event the initial hair test is positive. We view this is as extremely problematic and could have serious impacts on carriers that are utilizing hair testing today.

ATA will be submitting comments on these guidelines in time for the November 9th deadline. In addition to these comments, we are urging stakeholders to file comments as well. The comment process is critical to ensure SAMHSA hears the industry’s concerns.

To assist you in preparing your comments, click here to view general talking points concerning what we feel are the most problematic parts of the guidelines, and what data you can provide. Data provided directly from motor carriers can add tremendous value to the regulatory process. Comments can be brief and to the point.

To submit comments, click here. All comments must be submitted on or before November 9th.
