Inside CC Update    August 2, 2012

Our first sermon for the month of August:
Memorable Reflections
James 1:17-27

17 Every generous act of giving, with every perfect gift, is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. 18In fulfilment of his own purpose he gave us birth by the word of truth, so that we would become a kind of first fruits of his creatures.

19 You must understand this, my beloved: let everyone be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger; 20for your anger does not produce God’s righteousness. 21Therefore rid yourselves of all sordidness and rank growth of wickedness, and welcome with meekness the implanted word that has the power to save your souls.

22 But be doers of the word, and not merely hearers who deceive themselves. 23For if any are hearers of the word and not doers, they are like those who look at themselves in a mirror; 24for they look at themselves and, on going away, immediately forget what they were like. 25But those who look into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and persevere, being not hearers who forget but doers who act—they will be blessed in their doing.

26 If any think they are religious, and do not bridle their tongues but deceive their hearts, their religion is worthless. 27Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

Just a few weeks away!  All Church Camp Out at Nehalem Bay State Park

LOOKING FOR A GOOD WAY to spend the day on August 18?  Here’s a hot tip: come on over to the coast at Nehalem Bay.  Bring your family and/or friends and join over 100 friends from church as Ed and Kris Oster guide geo-caching adventures for all ages, Patrice Cameron leads students on a hunt to observe and sketch nature, and Amy Henderson provides games.  If you get there before 9 AM, Chuck Morgan will even fix you a gourmet cup of coffee for a donation to the student activity fund.   Lounging and visiting are also on the schedule for those who aren’t seeking action. Remember to bring a comfy chair, sunscreen and a sweatshirt.

You’ll find us around Loop A with the campers’ names posted at each CC campsite.  Park free near the meeting room; $5 day use fee for a whole carload collected near the entrance to the park.

Dinner will be potluck - served at 5 PM   BRING:  your own drink and a side dish or salad to feed 12 hungry adventurers.  Hamburgers, hot dogs and garden burgers complete with buns and condiments will be provided along with plates and utensils.

Worship follows dinner and an offering will be collected.  There will still be plenty of sun to light the way home or join the party at the BBQ pit for s’mores (bring your own supplies) and head back home later.
