Pastor David Out of the Office Remainder of This Week
I will be taking a couple days off this week and will be working from home the other days while I care for Rhonda, my wife, who will be recuperating from surgery. I can still be contacted by phone and e-mail (971-313-1281, pastordavid@comchristchurch.org). Thank you for your prayers. The surgery was successful, however, the recovery will be slow... 6-8 weeks. Continued prayers for healing are welcomed.

 Council Corner

You're Invited ...
As the new fiscal year gets under way and the new council begins to meet, we will be trying something a little bit different this year. We will be reading a book together entitled, Holy Currencies, by Eric Law.

In this book, Law focuses on six blessings that characterize many missional and sustainable faith communities. These six blessings are: Time & Place, Relationship, Truth, Wellness, Gracious Leadership and Money. He refers to these blessing as currencies because in order for these blessings to thrive they must flow like the current of a river.

We invite you to consider reading Holy Currencies along with the council. We have purchased a few copies of the book and they will be available in the church library (in the Commons) shortly, but you are also invited to purchase your own copy. This book is available on Amazon and from Chalice Press. We will also be offering an Adult Faith Conversation opportunity for the Winter session (beginning in January) that will focus on Holy Currencies and the six blessings it highlights. We hope you'll join us in this valuable learning for the sake of the whole community.

Community of ChristChurch Annual Campout

The church campout at L.L Stub Stewart Park is quickly approaching… August 21-24th.  We have 21 families that will be attending at campsites and luxury camping cabins!

A best decorated campsite contest, dancing, worship, potluck, as well as other activities at the park will be listed as the time gets closer.

NOTE: Those not camping are encouraged to sign up for the potluck - sign up sheets are now available - so the Front Porch team knows how much meat to purchase. Meat, chips and dessert will be provided by the Front Porch team.

As parking is always a challenge, the Cabin People will be driving down to pick up the Real Camping People for Saturday night’s events. We’ll even drive you back!

Questions? Patrice Cameron has all the answers!

On Sunday, September 7th, we will kick off the Fall season by joining congregations all over the country in serving our neighbor! The day will begin with worship at 9:30am, followed by opportunities to serve our community outside and inside our building.

We will gather after worship on September 14th to share photos and stories of our "God's work. Our hands." experience!

We are reaching out to a variety of groups to see how we might be of service on that day. If you have an idea or know of a group or individual who could use our help, please call the church office and let us know.

Stay tuned during August as we roll out the service projects we will be participating in and let you know more about how you can get involved.

Adult Faith Conversations
A seven week series of Conversations of Faith that happens each Sunday after worship and the coffee time finishing at 11:45. We will begin Sept 21st so mark your calendar! We invite you to consider which Conversation interests you:

BOUNDARIES, facilitated by Chris Moore, will focus on the book, Boundaries, by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend. This book addresses specific issues that confront today’s Christians, such as having trouble saying no and living a life that feels out of control. Often, Christians focus so much on being loving and unselfish that they forget their own limits and limitations. Let’s explore together what it means to set healthy boundaries in our lives.

THE GOSPEL OF THOMAS: WISDOM OF THE TWIN will be facilitated by Anke Brandstater. Using a book written by Lynn Bauman, we will explore the Gospel of Thomas,
a non-canonical gospel that was written in the early second century. This gospel consists only of sayings of Jesus – no miracles, no journey descriptions, no birth or death narrative. But they are often so powerfully expressed that they force the reader to stop still for a moment and take a whole new look at life
.

DAILY FAITH, facilitated by Rhonda Eppelsheimer, is a weekly discussion centered
on issues of faith and daily life. The topics vary from week to week. What are the faith questions you wrestle with? What does it mean to live every day from a Christian perspective?

Youth Car Wash a SUCCESS!

As you can tell from the pictures, the hot weather did not dampen the spirits of those who turned out to help with the Youth Car Wash on July 31st. While waiting for their cars to be washed, people were able to sit in the shade and visit with others and have a bottle of cold water to quench their thirst.  Thank You to Sena and Matt Wilmoth as well as the youth who turned out.

American Red Cross Blood Drive

So ChristChurch will host our first Red Cross Blood Drive with a final date in late September or early October to be determined. If you have given blood before you are encouraged to sign up and donate again. If you have not, please consider donating to this worthy cause. We are hoping for 40-60 people, so help us get the word out by asking friends, co-workers, family members to sign up. Advertising materials will soon be appearing.  Help is needed passing out flyers, contacting people, making appointments, baking cookies for the day of the drive, as well as other items.  If you would like to help out the before the drive or on the day of the drive, please call the church office.

Bring in donations for the Camp Lutherwood Inaugural Oktoberfest Celebration and Fundraiser
If you would like to donate toward the Camp Lutherwood fundraiser, Lucetta will soon have a Watering bucket in The Commons and you can place a donated item either in it or next to it. The theme ChristChurch has chosen is Gardening. Examples of items to donate:  a pair of gloves, a trowel, a kneeling pad, clippers, gardening books.  These are just some ideas, feel free to come up with your own idea.
