New Year, New Conversations,
New Opportunities!

Adult Faith Conversation Opportunities: Winter Edition!

We are very excited to announce the Winter Edition of Adult Faith Conversation Opportunities available at Community of ChristChurch on Sunday mornings, beginning on January 20th.

Connecting With God

Chris Moore is returning to facilitate another engaging conversation. This time the focus is on prayer. Do you struggle to pray? Do you wonder if God hears your prayers? The depth and breadth of our connection with God goes far beyond simply folding our hands and bowing our head, or reciting prayers we learned as children.

Based on Richard Foster’s book Prayer: Finding the Heart’s True Home (click to preview the book), this 7-week series will help you begin to understand, experience and practice some of many forms of prayer. Learn how to pray in silence, through action, and with words for yourself and others. Pray for God’s guidance and healing in ways you never imagined. If you’ve ever asked, like the disciple, “Teach me to pray,” join us for Connecting with God this winter. Participation in this conversation is limited to 10 people, so be sure to sign up soon!

Celtic Spirituality

Anke Brandstater asks you to come as you are, with an open mind and an open heart, as together we will explore Celtic spirituality. The Celtic church of the early centuries had a distinct spirituality quite different from our ancestor, the Roman Catholic Church.  There was an emphasis on the essential goodness of creation and of humanity made in the image of God.  God is seen as the Life within all life.  It was a wonderfully life-affirming and exuberant kind of spirituality, a spirituality of the heart, of listening to God in all of our life.

Anke invites you to purchase a copy of Listening to the Heartbeat of God:  A Celtic Spirituality  by J. Philip Newell, but wants you to know that reading the book is not required to join in the conversation.

Daily Faith

Ray Oeltjen and Rhonda Eppelsheimer will once again co-facilitate weekly discussions centered on issues of faith and daily life. What are the faith questions you wrestle with? What does it mean to live every day from a Christian perspective? Grab a cup of coffee or tea and join in with other adults on Sunday mornings to discuss current topics and reflect on Emmanuel (Christ with us.) These lively conversations will focus on a new topic each week.

This conversation has an open door policy and you are warmly invited to come spend time getting to know your brothers and sisters in Christ! You are encouraged to come every week but you can also join in for any discussion on any Sunday. There is no homework and guests and visitors are always welcome!

Historical Perspectives

Larry Wade joins our facilitator team for a survey of early church history. Together we will attempt to put major events in perspective, in order to help us appreciate our own faith and the times.  Participants will have a chance to shape the topics based on their own interests and will be invited to research and co-facilitate one of the topics. All materials will be in the Bible or online, including iTunes University videos. This is not a lecture class. Preparation and participation will be key to getting the most of this conversation.

Tentative topics may include:

~Palestine around the time of Christ, how the mess today compares.

~Constantine, how his conversion made Christianity the state religion; what happened in 1453.

~How our bibles evolved and are still evolving; Dead Sea Scrolls, Jewish OT and how it differs.

Participation in this conversation will be limited to 8 people, so be sure to sign up soon! Also, please note that this conversation will run for 6 weeks and will begin a week later than other Adult Faith Conversation Opportunities – January 27th.

Look for opportunities to sign-up for all of these conversations and to purchase books, beginning on Sunday, January 6th.
