Dear ChristChurch,

I wanted to let you know about the Women's March in Portland on Saturday, January 21st. All are welcome!

From the Women's March PDX website -

As a sister march to Women's March on Washington we stand in solidarity with our partners and children to champion women's rights and human rights of everyone in our vibrant and diverse community.

The weather forecast is for cold, wet weather (big surprise?)

·The pre-march rally starts at 12:15 (I won't get there until 12:45)

·12:45 join the Rally and queue in for the "March" - under the Morrison Bridge at Naito Parkway - Tom McCall waterfront park. (Best place to meet if you can't take the train together)

·1:15 - March begins - likely a very slow start/march due to the large crowds - 1.3 mile March.

·March ends at Naito Parkway and SW Pine.

The WINGS group will meet at church at 11:45 and board the Max from the Sunset Transit Station at 12:14pm. Website for stations and schedule - http://trimet.org/

See the facebook page below for more details on the march. www.facebook.com/events/208282922945133/

My cell is 503-320-6178. Hope to see you down there.

Peace,

Sallie W. Bullock
Church Council President

++++

Please join us for the Women's March on Washington that Sallie has outlined above. At the end of the event the Wings group hopes to stop for a quick bite together and to discuss the event.

This Sunday, January 22nd, from 10:45am to Noon, we will continue to use Jim Wallis’ book, America’s Original Sin: Racism, White Privilege and the Bridge to a New America, as the focal point for conversations about race in America.

For the 2nd session, this Sunday January 22nd, we recommend that those who are reading the book read up to chapter 5. Bring your book and your Bible.

Reading the book will be helpful, but not required, to participate in these discussions.

To prepare for this Sunday's conversation:

We are inviting folks to go online to take an Implicit Associations Test. This test attempts to measure a person’s level of implicit (that is, unconscious) bias in regard to white people and black people.

https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/selectatest.html

Simply click the GO! button in the box that says PROJECT IMPLICIT Social Attitudes

Then, read the disclaimer and click where it says, I wish to proceed.

Then, click the button labeled “Race IAT” to take the racial Implicit Association Test.

If you missed last Sunday, but are interested in seeing the video clips that were presented you can click on the following links. We only had time to watch clips 2,3,5 but they are all worth taking a look at.

During these last few months, we have been exploring together how we might move closer to loving all people without limits just as God loves all of us without limits. This includes people who are different from us in a variety of ways and who are many times vulnerable to exclusion from the dominant culture due to fear, ignorance and mistrust. One such community is the LGBTQ community.

If you are interested in learning more about how churches are offering intentional welcome and inclusion to our LGBTQ brothers and sisters, you have an opportunity to attend the Community Celebration of Welcome at West Linn Lutheran Church on Sunday, January 29th, beginning at 5pm.

I will be attending this celebration and encourage anyone who is interested to join me. Full details are here
