Sweet Surrender
Gospel Readings for this Sunday:
Matthew 7:1-12

Summer Preaching Series

Stay after worship for prayer and conversation on the book. Pastor David will be leading us in reflecting and discussing Chapter Three: Sweet Surrender.

Take a look at the discussion questions on p. 138 after reading the chapter.

"Surrender will always feel like dying, and yet it is the necessary path to liberation." (p.18). What kind of death in your life would bring liberation to you?

"We have been graced for a truly sweet surrender, if we can radically accept being radically accepted - for nothing!" (p.27). How have you known unconditional love?

Audio sermons, PowerPoints and Bible readings from the series are available online here.

Building Community:
Preventing Violence

A Conversation for residents of Washington County

Wednesday, June 22, 7 - 9:00 pm

On October 1st, 2015, the rural community of Roseburg was severely shaken by violence that erupted at nearby Umpqua Community College where a 26-year old student killed nine students and injured nine others before turning a gun on himself.

Vanessa Becker, Board Chair of UCC, will reflect on her experience of this tragic event and share lessons learned as part of Vision Action Network's Building Community, Preventing Violence, a conversation for residents of Washington County and the surrounding region.

Come explore how we might:

  • Build strong communities, even as we acknowledge that violence is rooted in our society
  • Prevent violence in our public gathering places
  • Capitalize on race, religion, and diversity in all its forms to unify, rather than divide us

Join with local residents in a facilitated dialogue to consider tough topics like these and reflect on ways in which we can contribute to safe, caring and vibrant communities. This event is free. Full details and registration here.
