9:30am Worship

Feeding 5,000

Scripture Reading for this Sunday:
Matthew 14:13-21

The season of Lent begins on Wednesday, February 18th.

Come join us for worship on that evening for our
Ash Wednesday Worship
 A Service of Holy Communion
and the Imposition of Ashes at 7:00pm

And then join us each Wednesday evening
at 6:30pm throughout the season of Lent

in the Commons for soup and bread supper,
Bible conversation and fellowship.

The theme for Lent this year is:
We Are Water Marked

We will be using the book,
Water Marks, by Diane L. Jacobson

Water Marks
is a
40 day Lenten devotional book that explores
the use of water and water imagery throughout the scriptures.

Purchasing the book is not necessary, but if you would like to have a book for
your own personal devotional journey this Lent, we will have some available at
the church for purchase ($10) OR you can purchase your own copy by clicking here.

Continuing with this theme, the Service and Mission Team will also be inviting
us to learn more about the justice issues involving water in our world today.

Adult Faith Conversations
continue this Sunday,
with three offerings...

THREE SHORT BOOKS OF THE NEW TESTAMENT:
A Bible Study of James, Jude & Philemon
Facilitated by Larry Wade

Larry Wade will facilitate a discussion around these three short books as an easy way to get into the New Testament.

The author of James was a pivotal leader in the early church in Jerusalem, while Paul focused on missionary work elsewhere.  The five chapters of James focus on practical applications of Christianity and provide a lot of food for thought.  Jude and Philemon are one chapter each.

Each week will be stand-alone so you can come for the entire series or come and go as your schedule dictates.  The only requirements are to read the material ahead of time, to ponder the questions that arise from your readings, and to participate in the discussion while staying focused on the material.  There will be no study guide, so nothing to buy, but you are encouraged to explore printed and online resources in addition to reading from your favorite translation of scripture.

HOLY CURRENCIES:

6 Blessings for Sustainable Missional Ministries by Eric H.F. Law
Facilitated by Pastor David and various Council members

In Holy Currencies, the author focuses on six blessings that characterize many missional and sustainable faith communities.  These six blessings are:  Time & Place, Relationship, Truth, Wellness, Gracious Leadership and Money.  He refers to these blessings as currencies because in order for these blessings to thrive they must flow like the current of a river.

Your church council has been reading this book together since June of 2014 and we plan to continue to use this helpful tool as we continue to discern the path God is calling us to walk together.

This book is available on Amazon and from Chalice Press.  We are now offering this Adult Faith Conversation opportunity for the Winter session that will focus on Holy Currencies and the six blessings it highlights.  We hope you'll join us in this valuable learning for the sake of the whole community.

DAILY FAITH
Facilitated by Rhonda Eppelsheimer

What are the faith questions you wrestle with? What does it mean to live every day from a Christian perspective? Grab a cup of coffee or tea and join in with other adults on Sunday mornings to discuss current topics and reflect on Emmanuel (Christ with us). These lively conversations will focus on a new topic each week.

This conversation has an open door policy and you are warmly invited to come spend time getting to know your brothers and sisters in Christ! You are encouraged to come every week but you can also join in for any discussion on any Sunday. There is no homework and guest and visitors are always welcome!

Service and Missions Team
Barrel of the Month
The Service and Mission Team would like to send a huge thank you to all who donated coats and blankets in January!! We collected 46 coats and 20 blankets! These will be passed out during the next Hot Chocolate Night on March 1st. Thank you for the warmth
and love that goes along with these!

In February the Barrel of the Month will support the
Community Transition Program for the Forest Grove School District.

The Community Transition program works with young adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities helping them navigate the transition from school to community life.

Our own Kelsey Hoggard works in this program. The participants of this program created a poster that is hanging on the wall in the Commons by the barrel. On the poster are heart shaped tags (it is the season of Valentine's Day after all!) Each heart represents an item that will help enhance their program. Please take a heart, fulfill the need and place the item in the barrel.

If your donation is $$$, please put it in a clearly marked envelope and add it to the offering basket. Checks should be made out to ChristChurch with the words 'Community Transition' in the memo line.

Thank you so much for helping these young people in their program!
