EcoFaith Recovery invites you and your faith community to “Return to the Rhythms of God” through worship, retreats, and practice groups focused on this theme in 2016! The retreats will be held at and in partnership with St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Beaverton. An overview of all three retreats is here.

The first retreat is on Returning to the Rhythms of God by Listening for God’s Heartbeat in the Wilderness of Lent. Pastor Solveig Nilsen-Goodin and the Wilderness Way Community will invite us into biblical wilderness stories and the wilderness of St. Andrew’s “Sanctuary of the Firs,” as we listen for God’s heartbeat in the wilderness of our own souls, our relationships, our faith communities and the public sphere.

Barrel of the Month
Baby Care Kits for
Lutheran World Relief (continues)

A Baby Care Kit from Lutheran World Relief is like a promise. It says to that baby, “Your needs will not be neglected by this world. You matter to us.”

When you send Baby Care Kits, you provide encouragement by welcoming these little ones into an international community that cares. Baby Care Kits are distributed as part of emergency and relief efforts as well as part of LWR health initiatives to encourage women to seek prenatal care.

Shirley Dinger has been assembling Baby Care Kits for Lutheran World Relief for years. Each year, Shirley and a friend assemble at least 80 kits that will benefit mothers and children all over the world. It is clear that this is one of her passions. Shirley is hoping we will all join her in this effort!

We will be collecting items for baby care kits in the barrel through the month of March. For a list of needed items go to the following here.

Welcome to our new Interim Administrative Assistant Rachael Jans!
Rachael joined the ChristChurch staff community this week. Rachael has over 9 years experience working with nonprofits leading communications and operations. Rachael moved to Oregon almost three years ago from Chicago with her dog Roman and husband Johannes.

She will be in the office Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9am - 3:00 each week. If you see her say hello and introduce yourself. Please note she will be out of the office the first week of March for her honeymoon in British Columbia.
An Opportunity to Support a ChristChurch member in mission ...

Dear Friends and Family,

I will be traveling with 9 other optometry students and a doctor to Nicaragua again this year over spring break to provide free eye care in this underserved area. Our trip last year to the formerly war-torn region of Jinotega was a success, and we will be adding a clinic day in Managua this year. Our organization, Amigos Eye Care, Pacific University College of Optometry's student chapter of Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity, schedules service trips to about 5 countries each academic year, from Cambodia to Tanzania and places in between!

We will be bringing over 1000 pair of donated eyeglasses with us, but the care goes well beyond glasses. We also travel with tools and equipment needed to diagnose and treat serious eye diseases, and we will care for hundreds of individuals in two towns during our week there.

Amigos provides only about 20% of our trip expenses, and the students have been fundraising as a team and as individuals to defray the remaining expenses.

Will you consider making a donation to Amigos Eye Care in support of Team Nicaragua 2016 (or on behalf of Larry individually, if you prefer)?
If you are interested, please go here for information on donating online or by check.

The site offers online donations processed by PayPal, but here is the important part: the main page doesn't allow you to designate your donation, but the next page (checkout) will have a link saying

"CLICK HERE TO SPECIFY AN INDIVIDUAL AMIGOS TEAM MEMBER"

It will give you a text box to type in a name.
Please enter either "Team Nicaragua 2016" (deductible contribution to entire team) or "Larry Buchholz" (non-deductible to support individual) if you prefer.

You may also donate by check--instructions for online and mail/check donations are given on the Amigos Donate page.

The deadline for donations is Friday March 4.

Thank you for your consideration of financial support for this service trip!

Warm regards,

Larry Buchholz
