"Living Water"

Camp Lutherwood Sunday
This Sunday we welcome counselors and staff members from Camp Lutherwood Oregon located in Cheshire, OR as our special guests. They will share some music with us during worship and tell us a little about what Camp Lutherwood Oregon has to offer for people of all ages.

Also, one of our guests, Katie Bode, will be the guest facilitator for the Daily Faith drop in Adult Faith Conversation this week. She will lead a conversation based on the theory of “Nature Deficit Disorder.” The idea that for adults and especially children, the loss of time outside/away from screens is severely detrimental to our emotional, spiritual and physical well-being. We will talk about the deep spiritual need to connect with the natural world. The discussion will give participants opportunity to wrestle with questions about how we see that deficit in the world today. What does it mean for us and future generations? What does it mean for us as people of faith? Come join in on the conversation.

An Easy Way to Give
Do you use search engines like Google or Bing to search for things on the Internet? Do you shop online or dine out on occasion? Then let me tell you about Goodsearch.

Goodsearch

Use Goodsearch.com to search the Internet and they donate a penny per search to your cause. Use Goodshop.com when you shop online and they donate a percentage of every purchase and offer over 100,000 coupons to help you save money too! Sign up for their Gooddining program and they'll donate a percentage of your restaurant bill when you eat at any one of thousands of participating restaurants. Front Porch 2.0 Vision Update

If you were unable to attend the Community Gathering on January 26th, and are interested in learning more about the Front Porch 2.0 vision, please pick up a DVD and flyer in the Entry. All we ask is that you try to return the DVD back to the church by the following Sunday so others can view it (we only made 15 copies!)

Barrel of the Month Club
The Service and Missions Team is collecting soup for the barrel this month. Any kind of soup will do... boxed or canned, as long as it is non-perishable. Your donations will warm the hearts of many people in need.

Personal Finance Class Spring 2014
Grace and Truth Bible Church is providing a study on personal finance based on Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University. This is a nine week course starting March 7 opened to all and will be held at Community of ChristChurch. See flyers in the Entry for more information or click here
to sign up.

Sunday Evening Jazz Worship
Join OPUS and CREW for their evening youth activity this Sunday (Feb 23rd). They will be taking a field trip to Augustana Lutheran to experience their 6:00pm Jazz Worship. This is a youth activity but is not limited to youth participation only. Everyone in the congregation is invited to join us. You can either meet at ChristChurch at 5:00pm and carpool over with us, or simply meet us at Augustana (2710 NE 14th Ave, Portland). To learn more about Jazz Worship at Augustana, click here.

Special Request: Accessibility Ramp in the Sanctuary
Every once in a while someone in the congregation will suggest to me a ministry or a project that we should take on as a community. When that happens, the first question I always ask myself is: Does this ministry or project help us live out our mission? So when Blain Radford approached me a few months back with an idea for his Eagle Project, I realized that the answer to my question was, “Yes!” Especially now, as we are in the beginning stages of our Front Porch 2.0 vision, Blain’s proposed Eagle Project fits this description beautifully. But I’ll let Blain tell you more about it…

“I am Blain Radford, a Life Scout with Boy Scouts of America Troop 728 and I am a working towards my Eagle Scout rank this year.

I am also a sophomore at Arts and Communications Magnet Academy (ACMA) and an active participant at Community of ChristChurch.

For my Eagle Scout project I am going to build a wheelchair ramp in the sanctuary of ChristChurch. The ramp will provide access to the stage for people with disabilities. Construction of the ramp will take place during Spring Break, in late March 2014. The total cost for the project is $2,000. This includes the permits, lumber, handrails, carpet and hardware. Several community members have volunteered to help me design the ramp to meet local code requirements and draft blueprints. I have also secured some donations for construction material from hardware stores.

I am now asking family, friends, the ChristChurch community, and local community members to consider supporting this project by becoming financial sponsors or by volunteering to help build it.”

To learn more about this project and how you can help Blain make it a reality, check out the brochures that are available in the church entry or you can contact Blain at (503) 830-2475 or me at pastordavid@comchristchurch.org.

Peace,

Pastor David
