Listening Team Update

I would like to thank everyone who participated in the Listening Team Nomination process. I contacted the twelve people who were nominated and asked them to prayerfully consider being part of the team. After some time for discernment, eight people agreed to come together to form the Listening Team. They are:

Lois Bizieff                                Larry Buchholz

Desiree Forcier                       Cindy Kinnie

Tracy Litterer                           Chuck Morgan

Chris Radford                           Larry Wade

I am thankful for their willingness to be a part of this very worthwhile process and for the gifts that each one of them brings to the team. The next step will be to schedule a training session for the team members. Some time in February they will begin contacting all of you to schedule 30-45 minute one-to-one conversations. I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to let your voice be heard and share your hopes and dreams, as well as your questions and concerns with our Listening Team members.

This ‘Listening Season’ will last about 90 days and will be followed by a congregational event where everyone will be invited to join in prayer and God’s word, reviewing the data collected by the Listening Team, identifying mission initiatives based on the passions of our people, and committing ourselves to join in the good work God’s Spirit is calling us to.

Peace,

Pastor David

Dear Friends,

I continue to be inspired by the amazing work God is doing in our community.   There is palpable vitality and a renewed sense of community when we gather; whether on Sunday mornings, in small groups or out working in the community.

Our council leaders have been working diligently.  We have listened to the wisdom of our previous leaders and task forces and have adopted new strategies to communicate better, to be more transparent, to be better listeners and to implement leadership succession.  The council has several notable updates to share with you at this time.
  • *We sought your input, and after thoughtful deliberation a single
  •   service worship was adopted.
  •
  • *Pastor Mike Keys with the Oregon Synod has been working with the
  •   team since October on Adaptive Leadership.
  •
  • *The Listening Team that will be active soon is a result of this early
  •   work.
  •
  • *We have agreed to a short-term lease extension with Mound Time.
  •
  • *The personnel manual has been reviewed and approved.
In the coming months we will be reviewing our resources closely to determine staffing options to support student and worship ministries.  Updated bylaws will be presented for review in advance of the June congregation meeting.  We will also be evaluating how our facility can extend our mission and ministries in the community.  Finally, we look forward to following through on the initiatives raised up during the upcoming Listening Season.

Bill Cameron has asked to be relieved from his council duties to make room for added responsibilities at work.   We will have a seamless transition because of the transition planning done earlier.  I will be serving as President for the remainder of this term. Please join me in thanking Bill for his faithful service to this community on January 27th.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to speak with a council member.  Thank you for the trust you have put in your leadership team.

In Christ,

Rich Radford
Council President

2013 Theme: Living Waters

I would like to invite you to join Rhonda and me for a special event coming up on Monday, January 28th. We will be attending the Fourth Annual Earth Care Summit: Living Waters, sponsored by Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon’s Interfaith Network for Earth Concerns, beginning at 5:30pm at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Beaverton, and we would love to see you there!

This is an opportunity to join individuals and congregations from around the state to learn about the sacred gift of life and its connection to faith, spirituality and ethics.

The cost of registration for this event is $25 per person and is due on Monday, January 21st. You can pick up registration materials in the church Entry this Sunday or you can also go online to learn more and to register at…   http://emoregon.org/emo_events.php

However, Rhonda and I will be sponsoring a table for eight, which means that the first six people to send an RSVP to me at pastordavid@comchristchurch.org will come as our guests. Please RSVP by Monday, January 21st, and please include your particular dietary needs (vegan, gluten-free).

Please come to be inspired by speakers and one another and to enjoy a seasonal dinner with old and new friends.

 God’s peace,

Pastor David
