Scripture Reading for Sunday, June 10
2 Corinthians 5:11-17

11Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we try to persuade others; but we ourselves are well known to God, and I hope that we are also well known to your consciences.

12We are not commending ourselves to you again, but giving you an opportunity to boast about us, so that you may be able to answer those who boast in outward appearance and not in the heart. 13For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. 14For the love of Christ urges us on, because we are convinced that one has died for all; therefore all have died. 15And he died for all, so that those who live might live no longer for themselves, but for him who died and was raised for them.

16From now on, therefore, we regard no one from a human point of view; even though we once knew Christ from a human point of view, we know him no longer in that way. 17So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!

Dear Friends and Members of Community of Christchurch,

After worship on Sunday, June 3rd, we celebrated the ministry of Lois Bizieff and Joanne Hauseman, with cake, thanking them for their ministry to our children over the years. Following the festivities we convened our Annual Congregational Meeting in the Worship Center.

At that meeting the congregation approved a new slate of Council members for the new fiscal year. The new council consists of five new and four returning members, plus the treasurer and the pastor:

Bill Cameron, President (returning)

Rich Radford, President-Elect (returning)

Melanie Heffner, Secretary (new)

Laura Taylor, Treasurer

Bill Branch (returning)

Sally Bullock (new)

Amy Henderson (new)

Ginger Pierce (new)

Mitch Wiencken (returning)

Sena Wilmoth (new)

Pastor David Eppelsheimer

I look forward to our work together in the coming year and the opportunity to get to know our newest council members better. Thanks again to our outgoing council members, Jane Pahlmeyer, Cindy Kinnie and Chris Moore. Your dedication and service to this congregation is certainly appreciated.

Our treasurer, Laura Taylor, gave the financial report and presented a budget for the 2012-13 fiscal year for the congregation’s approval. With a projected total income of $439,093, the proposed budget is $438,946. The budget passed unanimously. Included in that budget is an increase in salary costs that reflects the decision to move Brent from interim part-time Student Ministry Director to full time Director of Family and Music Ministry (please see accompanying article entitled: New Staff Position).

Earlier, during worship, I presented the plan for the Summer and Fall. Here are the highlights of that plan: (read more)

New Staff Position
Director of Family & Music Ministry

I am very pleased to announce that the Council has affirmed Brent Masterson’s gifts and the great work he has done as our interim youth director, and has approved my recommendation to hire him permanently in the role of Director of Family and Music Ministry.

Last August, Brent took on the daunting task of providing quality student ministry leadership following ten years of solid student ministry under the leadership of Pastor Chris Lyons. Since that time, Brent worked tirelessly to foster strong relationships with our students and their families even as they experience grief and loss in this transitional time. Brent has added his personal touch to this ministry and has demonstrated a strong commitment to the faith formation of our young people.

Several weeks ago, Steve Delamarter, in light of his very full work schedule, asked us to consider helping him transition from Worship Team Leader to Worship Team participant. With Brent’s musical skills and his experience leading the team in Steve’s absence, I believe he is the right person to succeed Steve in leading our Worship Team as they continue to provide strong music leadership in worship on Sunday mornings.

Below are some excerpts from an e-mail Brent sent to me while we were in the midst of discernment and discussion about the prospect of moving him from part-time interim to full-time permanent employee: (read more)
