Annual Congregational Meeting

Thank you to everyone who attended the Annual Congregational Meeting on Sunday, June 7th after worship.

We welcomed two new elected Church Council Members, Rod Davis and Paul Jackson, and said thank you to outgoing council members, Gary Graunke, Melanie Heffner, Tom Litterer and Rich Radford. We also approved the proposed Annual Budget (copies still available in the office).

We also acknowledged some transitions in our community, including Emily Litterer’s graduation from Pacific Lutheran University, Pastor Stuart’s interim work in Clatskanie, and four of our families moving away from the community… Ray and Jan Oeltjen are moving to Prineville, Bill and Marcia Branch are moving to Vancouver WA, John and Melanie Heffner will be splitting their time between Texas and Yachats, and the Binder family will be moving to Panama, where Shanti and Pat will teach at the International School of Panama. We will miss them all, wish them Godspeed and hold them in our prayers.

Our Church Council Roster for the 2015-16 fiscal year will be:

President: Sallie Bullock
Secretary: Kelsey Hoggard
Treasurer: Rich Radford (non-voting)
Pastor David Eppelsheimer
Jill Bierman
Rod Davis
Paul Jackson
Chuck Morgan

Our Treasurer, Rich Radford, gave the financial report and gave us the good news that we are once again in good standing with the bank regarding the covenants connected to our building loan. He also presented the proposed budget which notably increases our benevolence giving from the current 6% to 10%. Our Council President, Sallie Bullock, shared her report at the meeting (her report is in this Faith News). And Tom Roach gave us an update of how our WOW initiative is going and stressed the need for volunteers to help with hosting our community partners who use our facility. Pastor David shared an info-graphic poster as another way to tell the story of some of the highlights of our mission and ministry over the past 12 months. Hard Copies are also available in the Open Spirit Gallery.

           Presidents Report Annual Meeting 2015
What an amazing year this was working with amazing people. This year we started to implement our Front Porch 2.0., now our WOW vision, using our building as a gift to the community, and saw many people and groups come through these doors. In the fall, we went out to serve our community with Gods Work- Our Hands and we kicked off a Ministry Fair to help get people connected as a congregation. I am seeing maturity and growth of relationships inside the church as people are really making an effort during the Sunday greeting time. Faith conversations were well attended and our WINGS women’s group held monthly activities and even started a monthly BUNCO. I was also very proud of the work of our youth in the play, Murder at Mikes, and the leadership and collaboration that occurred with the adults and multiple churches to fund raise for the Detroit mission trip.

Our Council members, especially those ending their two year term, have seen a lot of change and they have had to make some very difficult decisions. I am really proud to be a part of this group and I feel like we have put some great structure to our meetings to make them effective and meaningful. We start with devotion at each meeting prepared by a council member and share some pretty intimate stuff at times. It is a great exercise in trust and building relationships and it allows God into our presence as we try to make good decisions. We have learned to respect our differences and to even embrace them as we all have gifts to bring. Our fall retreat taught us about different personality types and how to best work together. We sometimes will split up into pairs with an introvert and an extrovert to discuss certain topics; and we also engage in respectful mutual invitation where everyone is encouraged to speak their mind.

We worked on defining who we are as an open and inclusive community, supported the opening of our Open Spirit Art Gallery, brought in a pre-school after months of negotiation, balanced the budget, and continue to look for and brainstorm creative and thoughtful ways to improve the life of this community. I wanted to make a special shout out to Tom Litterer for tirelessly asking for the Benevolence fund to be restored to the historical 10% and after two years we were able to recommend that change.

This coming year some of the things council will focus on will be evaluating the Vitality Survey results, continuing our one-to one conversations internally and out in the wider community to assess areas of need and opportunity, and working to make this a vital and spiritual place for you and your neighbor.

Peace,
Sallie W. Bullock
Council President

Service and Mission Team
June Barrel of the Month:
Jesus is Living Water

Like cold water to a weary soul
is good news from a distant land.

                         Proverbs 25:25

For the Service and Mission Team June Barrel of the Month we will be collecting bottled water to support summer mission projects. Please consider a donation of water bottles this month that will be used in conjunction with projects such as lunch at Shute park for children, VBS, providing a cool drink for the homeless in our community, and many other projects where we at ChristChurch are out in our communities serving others. Service and Mission would be grateful to accept both pre-filled recyclable water bottle packs or new refillable water bottles (BPA free please). Thank you!

We are a group of women who are eager to build new friendships with other women in our church, strengthen the friendships we already have, and to serve God, each other, and our community.

WINGS (Women In God's Service) News:

        Card Making - Part 2 - TONITE,
                 June 11th, 6:30pm

This is a reminder that we will meet TONITE, Thursday, June 11th, at church to finish up our card-making activity. We have supplies ready and lots of fun, quick ideas for cards! Our goal is to make cards for people in two different care facilities. One card of encouragement will go directly to them, and if they are able, they will get approximately four handmade cards to send out themselves. We will begin at 6:30 with pizza that Jan Oeltjen has offered to pick up.  If you would like to join us, please let me know what time you can come and what kind of pizza you prefer. We should only have to chip in a dollar or two depending on how many people order. We will set up tables in the gym for dining and card making. If you have some ideas of sayings of encouragement or some Bible verses that would be appropriate, I would appreciate you sending those to me and I will type them up and have them ready.

Let's Organize the Library in the Commons
We are also getting a small group together to organize the "library area" in the Commons. If you would like to help us and you have not already emailed me, please do so. We will be setting some dates during the summer to complete this task.

                               WINGS Retreat
A reminder to put Saturday, October 17th, on your calendar. We will have our first Women's Retreat on that date. We are beginning to make plans for this fun time. More details will be coming.

 Blessings,
Kris
