Note from the Pastor
Dear Friends,
Three families in our community have lost a parent in the last few weeks. Steve Herder lost his father, Pete; Linda Lusky lost her father, George; and most recently, Corinne Gross lost her mother, Nona.
Please keep these beloved sisters and brothers in your thoughts and prayers. May we care for each of these families with tenderness and compassion in this difficult time.
The Scriptures reveal to us that God has created us to live in community and relationship. We see time and time again that we cannot go through this thing called life alone. While we place our trust and hope in the promise that God is always with us, may we also remember and cherish the gift of one another, and the support that we can be for each other in times of trouble. If you are going through a difficult time; if you or a loved one in your life is sick or going through a crisis; if someone you care about is approaching the end of their life, know that you have a whole community here to help hold that with you.
Please know that you can always call me (503-617-9526 or in an emergency, 971-313-1281) to let me know. With your permission, Lucetta and I can make sure that the community is notified so that we can be the hands and feet of Christ for each other.
God’s peace,
Pastor David

The season of Advent begins on Sunday, November 29th...
The Season of Advent begins on Sunday, November 29th. The purpose of Advent is to make us pregnant with hope. For many, the holiday season is not filled with joy, family, and gifts, but anxiety, stress, and despair. Advent seeks to reframe our experiences with new expectations, expectations that will not disappoint. It is the expectancy that new life will start to grow within all of us. However, we must be willing to make room for an interruption. Can we make that space to receive this gift?
Our worship each Sunday in Advent will include short, thought provoking films designed to help us pay attention to the season, to a sacred, different time. Also in the season of Advent, we welcome…
Sunday, November 29th: Guest musician, Donn Rochlin, will share his musical gifts and his story with us during worship. A composer and performer, Donn’s most recent musical project is called
The New Memories Project. After an experience of tragic loss, Donn set out to write songs about finding beauty in the midst of tragedy. He will share some of the music from this project and cds will be available for purchase. A portion of the proceeds from this project will benefit Portland's Dougy Center, which helps grieving parents and families process the death of a loved one. You can learn more about Donn here…

Sunday, December 6th: Guest Preacher and Presenter, Pastor Michael Keys will join us for worship on this Sunday. Pastor Keys serves half time as pastor of Bethel Lutheran Church in NE Portland and half time on staff of the Oregon Synod as a Director of Evangelical Mission. He is trained in interpreting the data from the Congregational Vitality Survey. He will share the insights he has gleaned from the results of our survey. If you haven’t had an opportunity to read the survey results and analysis, copies are still available in the Commons.
