Why your big prints may be missing the image sharpness you deserve:

All professional photo labs produce sharp prints on sizes up to 12” x 18”. That’s because the vast majority are using Noritsu laser printers for prints up to 12" wide.
But, with the exception of our laboratory and one in Kansas, nearly all U.S. pro labs are making their larger prints on LED
(Light Emitting Diode) printers. They are not using lasers to print your bigger enlargements.
The result? 16" x 20" to 30" x 40" prints that are far less sharp than you deserve from your camera & lenses. Even the colors are less saturated, lacking the depth of laser-made prints.
How you can see the difference?
Check out their prints!
- Look closely at one of their small prints
(any size from 4" x 6" to 12" x 18".)
- You should see excellent sharpness, particularly around the subject's eyes and hair.
- Now, examine a 16" x 20", 20" x 24" or 20" x 30" enlargement of the same image.
- The softness you'll see in the big print is not the result of "blowing it up."
- Unlike optical enlargements from film, digitally enlarged images from your dSLR
should show the same sharpness at all sizes...no matter how large they are printed.
