Why Is the Acquisition a Disaster?
Some guidance to help understand how to prevent a disastrous acquisition — and for assessing what went wrong, to fix the acquisition in time, and to prevent the company from going down the same path again
BY JEFFREY CHERTOFF
We have all experienced this as C-suite executives and members of boards looking on as peer companies merge, or acquire — and the combined firm does not deliver on the promises. Questions top-of-mind for us:

BY JIM KRISTIE
One of the big mysteries of business life for many executives is how to get on a corporate board.
I have written in this space before about how often I am approached by aspirants to board service. Asked-for aid can be everything from guidance on navigating what seems like a Byzantine process of board selection to actual placement of an individual’s CV into the hands of those who will be doing the selecting.
My chief piece of wisdom that I convey is that it is not “who you know” but “who knows you.”

LEAD OR GET OUT OF THE WAY IN THE DIGITAL ECONOMY
Strong leadership pays dividends in the digital economy, where continuous innovation, rapid decision making, and a global mindset are essential to success. Oxford Economics surveyed more than 4,100 executives and employees around the world and from diverse industries during the second quarter of 2016. The study, Leaders 2020, finds that companies that get digital leadership right perform better in the marketplace.
Key findings are that these companies: report stronger financial performance — they are 38% more likely than others to report strong revenue and profit growth; and they are building a stronger leadership pipeline — they have more mature strategies and programs for hiring skilled talent (85% vs. 64% of others), building diversity (56% vs. 48%), and succession planning (72% vs. 50%).
