US Team successful
at Pan-American tournament.

The U.S. team did very well at the Pan-American tournament in Brazil, November 13,14th.  Rob and Cynthia, from the Minneapolis Dojo, placed 2nd in M/W Enbu.  Laurie Elliott, from the St Paul dojo, made the semi-finals, placing in the top eight.

The full results can be found at www.aakf.org

This report comes from Laurie Elliott:

Day One:

It is very hot and humid here. The hotel is nice as is the competition venue. No air conditioning though, so we're going through a lot of water. Temps are in the 90's.

Cynthia Hakana "rolled over" her knee training Friday night and pulled out of women's kata. She and Rob will do their enbu later today. The results so far:

Brad Webb and Marcus Brenner (from Texas) - 2nd place in man-man enbu (FINAL RESULT - Go USA)

Marcus - missed making top 8 in men's kata on a tie-breaker.

Laurie - made the top 8 in women's kata, but not the top 4 for finals. Performed Bassai-Sho in the first round, then Gojushiho-Sho in the second round.

Day Two:

A little more news from Brazil. The US did very well yesterday. It was another hot day. Here's how everyone finished.

Sasa Panic- 2nd place Fukugo
Seth Rosendahl- 2nd Place Kumite
Cynthia Haakana and Rob Solonyka - 2nd place M/W enbu
Soolmaz Abooali- 2nd place fukugo, 3rd place kata
Brad Webb and Marcus Brenner, 2nd M/M enbu

US Team - third place overall for medals (6 total)

Seth took quite a hit to the mouth from Buzzi and ended up with two stitches and then back to the matches. He did a great job. I was happy to see Toru's student (Sasa) do so well too.

That's all from here. Time to go be a tourist - we're visiting the Pantanal today (the largest wetland in the world!)

Have your karate techniques has been feeling tight lately?  You could use the yoga classes for those times when you really feel the need for additional stretching.  The relaxation poses used in a yoga class will really help you to let go of that tension.  This is a great opportunity for the karate student to get that extra stretch we all need at times.  And the card never expires, so you can take the classes any time you like.

This card is also transferable, so you can bring a family member or friend along with you.  Or if you know someone who would like to give yoga a try, yoga cards make a great Christmas gift.
