In partnership with Columbia College Chicago, ELIA announces a joint international symposium that adresses the role of the arts and its "claim to creativity", in relation to other forms of creativity and society at large.

11th ELIA Biennial Conference

ELIA Biennial Conference 2012
Call for venue
Deadline: 15 April 2010

ELIA will organise its 12th Biennial Conference in 2012 and is calling upon its members to nominate a venue.

The ELIA Biennial Conference is usually organised in October and attracts roughly 500 delegates, representing more than 40 countries, giving the host institute(s) a unique opportunity to present themselves to Higher Art Education Institutions and Universities from all over the world.
Deadline for sending in nominations is 15 April 2010.

Following the success of the NEU/NOW Festival 2009
(www.neunow.eu) we are delighted to announce a Call for Nominations for higher arts education institutions and universities to nominate their most talented graduating students for NEU/NOW 2010.
Deadline for sending in nominations is 1 June 2010.

We hereby ask member institutions for nominations to the ELIA Board for the period autumn 2010 - autumn 2012. The elections will take place during the General Assembly in Nantes, 30 October 2010.
Deadline for sending in nominations is 1 July 2010.

Art futures publication
Call for papers
Deadline for abstracts: 15 May 2010

ELIA is preparing a publication on developments in higher arts education and the role of ELIA.
Among the possible topics are:

  • the ongoing debate about artistic research
  • art schools and the "creative industries"
  • higher arts education in European cultural policy
  • life after the academy
However, we are open to other suggestions.

The size for papers is max. 5000 words. Abstracts should be approx. 1 page in length and include a motivation and short CV (100 words)

Abstracts should be sent to floris.solleveld@elia-artschools.org before 15 May 2010;
if selected, full-size papers should be submitted by 1 September.y 30 September.

Paula Crabtree new rector at KHiB
Paula Crabtree, ELIA board member and artistic co-director of the Neu/Now Festival, has been elected Rector of the Bergen National Academy of the Arts on 17 March.

Mark de Belder dies at 56
We were very sad to hear that Mark de Belder, dean of St. Lucas Antwerp, has died unexpectedly on 19 February during a holiday in Florida.


ELIA Performing Arts Section - first newslettter
The ELIA Dance Section (EDS) and the theatre section (Prospero) have merged to become the ELIA Performing Arts Section (EPAS).
