Team Reports

Round 5: 6 Green V De La Salle Blue      Loss      4/36

This was always going to be a big game. De La have some great tacklers and were twice the size of some of our boys. Finn and Jye G had great games running the ball up to make us valuable metres and both tackled well in the middle. Drew and Rory looked after the left side of the field in defence and took quite a few De La runners over the sideline. Tyson assisted Sam on the right side, and also managed to take a few runners into touch. Nick had another great game running the ball hard and straight up the middle.

Jai W and Sam picked up awards for their enthusiasm, being involved in almost every tackle, and Man of the Match went to Kurt for 1 fantastic solo Try, and tackles which stopped 3 or 4 certain De La ties.

Round 7

Round 7: 6 Green V Como      Loss      12/24

Our best game so far. The boys came out today to play footy and play footy they did. They listened, they tackled, and they ran hard resulting in our best scoreline this season. Individual reports are listed:

Fynn ran the ball up the middle and although he got tackled hard, he didn’t drop any balls.

Jai Williams attempted tackles on kids twice his size and showed us how tough he is.

Tyson guarded his side of the field and made some smashing tackles.

Kurt made about a million tackles and scored 2 great Trys.

Our Award winners were:

Jy Garvey for his best run of the season and getting involved in Tackles.

Owen for some great tackles and getting really involved in the game.

Drew for an all round good game making us valuable ground. &

Samuel who picked Man Of The Match for a solid game and scoring his first official TRY.

Engadine Dragons Under 6 red vs Taren Point Titans

Another great week and although only round 5 the team is really starting to take form.  It’s exciting to watch the young boys learning and developing their love of rugby league.  Well done to Cooper for getting himself involved this week.  Taj is proving himself to be a strong player, a real natural. Ben Martyn is doing some excellent tackling.    Great defensive play (as always) from Cynan, who never gives up, but still managed to score 2 tries.  Another fantastic week for Eli who scored 3 tries and is showing great skill in attack, but still solid in defence.  Zane is improving every week and showing great skill, the beginnings of a great player.  Luke has great defence and tackles really well.  Ben Metcalfe is running the ball well.   Lachlan is showing great skill in his tackling, also.  Thomas is also doing well chipping in with some great runs.   It’s a pleasure to coach a team who are showing such potential.  With young players like these, the future of the Dragons is definitely secure!  Great work boys, keep it up!!!  Fergo

This week our boys had great win against Como 24-20.It was an awesome TEAM effort. Each player this week contributed to the win. It wasn't till the final 3 minutes that the game was decided with our defense I think winning us the game. We started the game strongly with 2 quick tries but Como threw everything at us with some good second phase play. Our little men held on well with all the tackling practise really paying off.Its great to see the boys using our moves and starting to talk to one another out on the field. Special mention this week to Cam & TJ who between them shared the defense & first receiver role all match. With the lead changing twice in the match it could have gone either way. Im really proud of this team and the way they try everything we train for during the week. Great team effort boys keep up the good work.

10B V DLS  Won 54-0

Saturday the 13th saw the U10B’s travel to Caringbah to take on the might of De-La; on a day which was bitterly cold, but perfect for winter footy. With an undefeated season so far, the boys were pumped, and keen to keep there unblemished record in tact.

The game started with Engadine kicking off, and finding the line immediately. This was an early indication of Engadine’s unexpected dominance throughout the match. Within the first five minutes Jake Green was to cross for the first of his two tries, which were a result of his fantastic support play. Greeny provides the perfect model for the other boys, as how to run with, and support your team mates. As a result Greeny took out a well earned Man of the Match award. A player who the boys are always keen to run in support of is Noaksey, which is partly due to his uncanny ability to off load from any tackle; that is if the opposition can get hold of him.  Each week Josh demonstrates a natural ability to find and run into the gaps, or simply break the line by putting his opponents into two minds. Saturday was no different and Josh crossed the line three times.

In total the team scored 10 tries, some of which were the result of fantastic team work; while others were scored via sterling individual displays. Tripi was to score an individual try by pulling off an unbelievable intercept which Benji Marshall would envy. Although Tripi displays brilliance as an individual week in and week out, it his is ability to organise and direct the team around the paddock which sees him shine as a natural leader. Like any leader Tripi leads by example and Saturday saw him make a number of text book tackles, which was to encourage the other boys to follow suit. One bloke who enthusiastically puts his body on the line to make the big tackles is Flemo. He plays with a massive heart and is the epitome of a Rugby League player. Saturday’s game allowed Flemo to display his natural skill as a reliable defender and skilful attacker, which saw him cross the line early in the second half and kick a lucky conversion off the cross bar.

The beginning of the second half saw De-La attack Engadine’s line for the first time, and to the boys credit they defended their line with a level of grit and determination, as if the game had only had just begun. The character exhibited by all the players during this passage of play was something the whole team and parents should be proud of. This was not the only time the boys encouraged each other, words of encouragement were being shouted out throughout the entire game. One bloke who was always encouraging his team mates was Kayne, and while he has a natural talent for playing the game, he is another player who can read the game, and lead his team mates by example. Kayne scored a brilliant try towards the end of the game, off a step we see each week, and which other teams will come to know and fear.

The talk during the game had a profound effect on some of the boys, and as result Kyle was to have his best game of the year. Kyle had a phenomenal game, running with the ball without fear and tackling like a machine, this contributed to Kyle receiving a man of the match award. All the forwards had outstanding games, with Adam charging the line like an uncontrollable Rhino. Adam made a number of fantastic runs palming the might of De-La out of the way and barging through the defensive line. Adams skill was also tested on the line by a well placed kick into the in goal. Mobbsy showed tremendous effort to gather the ball and get back into the field of play.

Adam did extremely well to also achieve a Man of the match award. Another recipient of a Man of the Match award was Braden, and he played an excellent game to achieve his award. Brains was running the ball like a rampaging bull, he runs with immense strength and purpose. In defence he was like a brick wall with arms, I suffered three broken ribs just watching the young bloke hit the opposition in defence. A second hard hitter and one who sends shudders down any attacking team is Luke. He is certainly Mr Reliability in defence and made some excellent tackles on the weekend. When he got hold of the ball he pirouetted with the grace of a ballerina, and evaded the first two or three defenders. Luke has improved out of sight and when he runs the ball he is a man on a mission, and it is to some relief for the opposing players when the final bell goes and Luke leaves the paddock.

Engadine was to enjoy a majority of the possession during the game and this allowed the boys to try out some of their set moves, which included the wall. This particular move created an air of confusion and hysteria amongst the De-La lads, with one yelling out in a panic “what are they doing”. Although the move did not produce a try it demonstrated the teams improving ability to strategise and co-operate as a team, which was a very impressive point of the game.

The ability to work as a team produced some magical football, where the boys spread the ball from one side to the other. One person getting his hands on the ball and unselfishly letting it sing to his teammates was Macca. On more than one occasion he was able to take the ball to the line and pop it to a team mate, sending them on their way. Macca also had no regard for self preservation and put his body on the line in a tackle that mimicked a scene from Kung-Fu panda. Another young bloke who is willing to be the sacrificial lamb in the line of defence each week is Peachey, and Saturday was no exception. Peachey defended with enormous intensity and performed some excellent tackles. He also pinned his ears back and darted for a couple of very good runs and was unlucky not to place the ball on the chalk. Peachey had a fantastic game, and is also one of the players who offered words of support to the rest of the team during the game.

Another young player who got a meat pie on Saturday was young Zac; he played his usual disciplined incredible game. Zac was running at excellent angles, which allowed him to break the line several times. Not only was Zac running excellent traditional up the guts forward running, but he also had the foresight to run wider and seek out the gaps. Zac has learnt how to use his body to drop defenders and he demonstrated this perfectly on Saturday.

The young Dragons played an excellent game and displayed the fact that they are improving on a weekly basis. Key features which should be highlighted and mentioned a second time was the continual positive talking amongst the boys, and the desire to support each other. It was also great to see the boys developing safer hands when passing along the line. Well done boys and for the record the final score was 54-nil.

DE LA SALLE @ CAPTAIN COOK

Score

20-14

We managed to put a competitive side on the field with still plenty of players drinking sook juice, being unavailable. We welcomed Levi back from NYC and he showed glimpses of what a quality footballer he is.

Duncs provided the early spark with a great try from a quality pass from Richo playing “6”, he converted then five minutes later ran 80 metres from an intercept.

Khan again and Nipper done the hard yards up front to give us good field position.

We went to oranges at 10-4 up.

A great try to Levi early in the second half by beating 6 defenders and running 80 metres put us 14-4 up.

Crusty came off the bench after doing the stats in the first half and provided the difference we needed by some solid defense and running, also scoring a “meat pie’.  We converted and led 20-4, and we should have gone off with it but again knocked off and let in 2 tries.

We held on the last 5 mins and took the two points.

Good to have a win away and look forward to getting everyone to training and combining our plays with the 13 who start the game each week.

Tries: Duncs 2, Wardy 1, Levi 1

Goals: Duncs 1, Richo 1

POINTS: 3 Richo, 2 Khan 1, 1 Matt Milross / Ebby

PS a special mention and thanks to Khan for playing under the circumstances that he and his family have endured during the week.

Round

Played

AQUINAS HOLY FAMILY @ BLAXLAND OVAL

Score

40-16

On a dull miserable Sunday afternoon, perfect footy weather I might add, we ventured up to Blaxland to play the Aquinas.  They looked patchy for numbers prior to the start which doesn’t do much good for your mental preparation but they managed to put on a competitive side.

We fielded a strong 13 and put it to them early with some quick reflexes by Ebby to charge down a kick and score under the sticks.  Some brilliance from Levi then put us 12 – nil up, another try to Carney down the left and we were up 18 zip.

Again we let them back with some errors to lead 22-10 at oranges.  Some stern words of wisdom from the powers above saw a more positive attitude in the second half racing in 3 more converted tries before getting a little too fancy and costing us field possession letting them score to finish up winning 40-16.

We play Como next week who are improving each week and won’t be taken lightly.

Tries: Levi 2, Carney 1, Dell 1, Richo 2, Ebby 1

Goals: Richo 5, Crusty 1

POINTS:  3 Levi, 2 Ebby, 1 Mother – closely followed by Richo playing 6.

THE SIDELINE EYE

A-Reserves Vs Cronulla Caringbah – 14th June 2009 at Endeavour Field. Lost 25-6.

Rain, drizzle, cold, dreary and bleak and that was just the weather. We just did not match their intensity. Our game plan was to settle the ball and kick long to the corners so we played the game in their quarter. We did it perfectly. Once. Our hit ups were good in the face of a heavy defensive line but they played us in our quarter. They executed our strategy against us. When they eventually got the ball it was in our half and our defence did not move up on both sides of the ruck. They put 2 first half tries on us but failed to convert. With the score only 8 at half time it was saveable.

They scored first in the second half and again failed to convert. Despite being 12 nil down we were playing our best football in the third quarter of the game. Then Everton Parahini scored a determined try under the posts which was converted by Kane Ryan. At only 12-6 and building some pressure we were a chance of getting back into the game. Poor ball security and a couple of penalties saw us lose our momentum however. We were running the ball strongly but kicking late in the tackle count straight down the wingers and fullback's throat when they were in position proved ineffective. They kicked a field goal pushing the score to 13-6 and scored 2 late tries to blow out the scoreline.

Everyone was pretty upset after the game. We turned up in rotten conditions and things just did not turn out right. Look no one ever doubts the guts these players have when they run out proudly playing for the club. The problem was in the intensity and execution of our game plan. Preparation starts with reflection over this performance today, training through the week and giving yourself a chance to play at your best by not staying out all night on Saturday.

BEST & FAIREST: 3 POINTS - Adam Garvey 2 POINTS - Nathan Bullock 1 POINT - Dominic Parahini. A special mention goes to Lee Wilson who also had a very strong game and Kurt Marsh who was reliable on the wing. Thanks to the Trainers Nathan Jones and Jack O'Reilly and the hardy supporters who turned out in the lousy weather.
