Team Reports
Round 6 : 6 Green V Gymea
This wasn’t one of our easier games but with all the rain and all the mud, a fun time was had by all. When the rain came down heavy, all the boys looked to the sideline waiting for their parents to call them from the field, but once they realized we were still playing , they shivered, wiped the mud off their hands, and started to play football. (and played in the mud)
Individual reports are listed:
Jy Garvey ran the ball wide again and was unlucky not to pick up his 1st try.
Owen showed me he can tackle when I whispered in his ear, and made 3 in a row.
Drew again had a great allround game making lots of ground and many tackles.
Rory made some great tackles and never took a backwards step.
Our Award winners were:
Fynn who made a one on one tackle and realized he can do it.
Jai Williams who was 1st out of the defensive line and was involved in most tackles.
Tyson made some strong runs and is improving each game &
Kurt who saved try after try with his great tackling style.
GO DRAGONS !!

8B V Gymea Won 36-6
8C V Aquinas Won 32-8
Another great performance from the boys this week in awful conditions. Our little men played Aquinas & won convincingly 32-8.Like last week I believe our defence won us the game as Aquinas could not break through our boys.We controlled the play from the opening whistle with great ball control in the muddy conditions.Three quick tries in the first 3rd set the game up.The second 3rd was a bit tougher with our opposition scoring first but Samuel Gurton, who played his best game of the year which resulted in his man of the award & TJ tackling brilliantly. In fact the whole side as really geled together, each player knowing where they are to be in both attack & defence.A couple of tries in the final 3rd sealed the game for us.After starting the year slowly with 2 losses our little men are now undefeated since round 2.A great effort by the boys. Its getting harder each week to pick the best player. Keep up the work boys who knows what this little team is capable of.
9A V Bosco Draw 16-16 Round 5
The weekend saw a another local derby played against the boys up the road, and once again it was a cracker of a game. The dragons started sluggish throwing the game plan out the window, the well drilled Bosco outfit capitalised and went to the break 10-0 up. A constructive halftime chat saw us start the second half a lot stronger, with the fowards starting to dominate it wasn't long before Zac The Snapper Topham score a smart try witch was followed by two great length of the field tries. The first was a powerfull tackelbusting run by Curtis The Animal Hunter, the second would have made all the great fullbacks smile scored by our very own Cory Slippery Parsons, put us 16-10 up, with only minutes left on the clock the dogs wereall over our line finaly breaking through right on the bell from a kick that proved tricky to handle, tying the game at 16-16. All the boys played well and as always showed plenty of heart, and with a better start next week we should get back on track with a win. Welldone boys.
Mark Jock Tracey.
9A V CC Lost 26-10
9C V Como Won 34-6
10B V CC Won 46-0
Well the boys turned up very excited about a game in the mud. For a while there they had to get their minds off the mud and remember that they were there to play footy.
The boys had a great game showing some fantastic set plays and good hands in the slippery conditions. I am amazed at how these boys have improved this year and how they are working as a real team. It is a real credit to Mark for how these boys are developing.
Some of the highlights I noted were;
·
A great length of the field try by Tayne. He scooped up the ball in his own in goal area and took off! There was no way that anyone was going to catch him.
·
The Wall (at least this week we were on side). This move went really well and it shows that the boys are willing to try new things.
·
Chayce coming within a fingertip of the tryline. There is always next week and a try is surely coming his way soon.
·
Zac and Adam busting through the line for some tries.
·
Tanye & Jack combining for a well worked Bullrush down a short blind side.
·
Kayne & Noaksey turning the opposition inside out with a neat Phantom.
·
All the goal kickers did a great job with Macca converting his first for the year under duress. He kicked it easily so it may not be as hard as he thinks. Good job Macca!
·
Half time – I think the boys were more interested in sliding in the mud than listening to Dodgey.
After a very wet match the boys won the game 46 nil. They played brilliantly and I am sure they enjoyed the warm shower after the game.

Well what a nice wet and muddy muddy game this one was. Our boys went out looking for a win and went out ready to play, considering how wet it was the boys did well to hold onto and control the ball, joel went in for a quick try to get the first points on the board and then we made a break and went into score again, cronulla had some tough defence and did there best to hold us out, then it was cronulla in for a try. Nathan had a good game out on the wing, ben, nipper , keenan and jordan were good defence doing well to keep cronulla from making to much ground, Brandon's kicking game was on target and pulled off some great kicks throughout the game. All the boys did well on the day, it was good to see you all get in there and have a go considering how wet it was out there, and we could all see that you had a ball sliding and tackling and coming up with a eye and mouthful of mud!!!! it was good to watch!!!! see you out there next week..............

A RESERVE GRADE Vs ST CHRISTOPHERS 21 JUNE 2009 AT KAREELA OVAL LOST 34 - 6
We have had an uneven run up to this game with rained out matches and the bye then 2 losses on the trot in poor playing conditions. Coach Jones called a team meeting Sunday morning before the game to discuss our game plan and other aspects. The scoreline does not indicate that there was improvement in some areas but it does show some of our old persistent mistakes such as not maintaining a committed straight line defence on both sides of the ruck and the need for more discipline in defence and ball control around the play the ball area.
We are always very quiet before the games. Not necessarily a bad thing. The coach said "What's this boys the quiet before the storm?" It wasn't. When we are on the field there needs to be a lot more talk organising defence and generally encouraging each other for good tackling and running to build team morale.
Kurt Ridley ("Gidley") was the stand out well supported by "Mr Consistency" Danny Brubaker who scored our lone try converted by "Skip" Kane Ryan. The "Panther" Everton Parahini took a huge hit and was forced off but bravely shrugged off injury to go back on and figure prominently. Good service and a sound kicking game was provided by "Cheeks" Adam Jones at half back. "Bouncing" Benny Cotton had a solid game in defence at hooker.
The most spectacular thing about our attack was the block busting ball second half running of centre Judd "Schultz" O'Shea. Front rower Dennis "the Tank" Marsh and second row Kieran "Salad" Smith hit the ball up well also, particularly in the second half.
This team can win. Cheeks tells me attendance at training has been pretty good We just need to combine and play as a team for each other and build spirit.

A-Grade Report – V’ Gymea – round 8 – Kurnell Oval – 21/6/09 – draw 12-12.
Taking on Gymea has traditionally been tough games and yesterday's game was no different. When only a few minutes into the game we lost our big forward Nathan Bullock to a broken finger (x-rays revealed it was broken in 4 places). Nathan did have Kendal stretch it back into place and after some strapping by Graham Wagener, went back out to finish off the first half before heading to the hospital. Gymea went to the break 4-0 which proved to be a good result for Engadine due to the amount of errors we made in the first half; the score line could have blown out to 44-0. With the shuffling of some positions at half time we came out looking a lot better seeing our guys finally attacking Gymea’s line instead of continually defending ours. It was only going to be a matter of time before Gymea broke and it came in the 40th minute of the game when “Coach” Aaron Palmer made a tank like run down the centre of the field and with a nice offload to Shane Chapman with metres to go seeing him go over and put us back in the game. 4 all. It was only a few minutes later when we were once again thrown into damage control when Shane Chapman left the field violently ill. In the mayhem of trying to attend to Shane, get a replacement out for him and re-shuffle the team, Gymea were able to take advantage and score making the score 8-4. I have spoken to Shane’s father this morning and he informs me that Shane is OK today and in actual fact is at Uni today doing his exams. Shane wasn’t feeling well before the game (not alcohol related) and on seeing how ill he was when he came off, it only leads me to believe that his efforts yesterday were truly outstanding. Well done Mate and I trust you are feeling better and you nail your exams today. It was around the 50th minute of the game when Mark Stewart showed the brilliant skills he has and was able to set up Zach Besant next to the post and with Mitch Neylan boot took the score to 10-8 our way. But yep, Gymea come back again and score, setting up what was a nail biting finish to the game. Thank God Gymea couldn’t find a kicker amongst them. 12-10 Gymea’s way. With literally minutes on the clock we were able to work our way up onto Gymea’s line where a favourable penalty was awarded our way. The decision was made to kick for goal and it proved the right decision as Mitch was successful taking the score to 12 all. As previously mentioned this was a hard game and we did go away with some heavy injuries to Nathan Bullock broken finger, Adam Garvey – shoulder injury, Andrew Johnston – rib damage, Aaron Palmer - back.
