What a great win by our little men this week against a team that we have traditionally had trouble against over the last 12 months. Our guys tackled hard and ran with plenty of effort for our first win of the year, winning 36-18.Our first third started off great with the boys trying to put in effect the move we had practiced during the week at training. Ryan Lane got us going forward with strong busts up the middle and he was well supported by Sam Gurton and our wounded fullback Cam Bennett. With TJ organising the attack we looked sharp and ready to pile on the points. What was more pleasing however was the defensive effort by the whole team. All the hard work at training paid off with every player making some big hits especially Will, Cam and the 2 Sams. With Tiny Ryan covering the edges and good straight defensive line Bosco found it hard to break through. The middle 3rd was a tough hard slog for our boys doing plenty of tackling. It was the only time in the match that we really looked troubled. By the last 3rd our boys clicked up a gear to run away with the game pretty easily. I’m really proud of our tackling keep it up guys more wins will follow if we play like that each week.
p.s. more goal kicking practice coming up........
8C’s Round 4 V DLS
Won 28-6
This week our boys followed up last weeks effort with an awesome 28-6 win over DLS 2. With DL scoring in the first set of tackles from the kick off it looked as though our guys didn’t want to play. But from the tap restart they switched on with great strong running and even better defence. We seem to be really fitting into our positions on the field well and we are starting to play like a team. There wasn’t one player who didn’t give their all this week especially our new dummy half Will Arrowsmith. Ryan lane continues to get great go forward for our faster little men TJ, Cam and Ryan Lang to really put teams on the back foot. Special mention this week to Sam Gurton and Hayden for their defensive efforts. It was great to see Spencer filling in for us at dummy half when no one else wanted to get there, great work mate. Keep up the great work boys, you are doing us all proud.
ENGADINE DRAGONS 8B’s V COMO - 2 May, 2009
Great Game Boys !!
Special thanks to Logan & Zac who were unable to train due to illness/injury during the week but made it to the game to help their team mates, Great Team Spirit Boys!
Defence- The Como boys had great “palming” technique, which troubled us at times so we need to concentrate on tackling lower. Thomas Lewis congratulations on your excellent cover defence at Fullback and Jack & Thomas Wrightson for protecting their wings as Como tried to attack the wing quiet often
Attack – Nothing could stop Cameron going over the line – 4 tries is an exceptional effort. Jayke did great Dummy half work, Taylor, Logan & Zac made good, solid efforts up the middle.
TJ awesome effort in attack & defence, thanks mate for helping us out.

ENGADINE DRAGONS 8B’s V BOSCO - 9 May, 2009
A tough game boys and you had to come from behind to get the win.
Bosco are a good side and will give us plenty of competition.
In attack the boys were so keen to have a run that it all got a bit messy and confusing…. Something to work on at training.
Luckily our defence was good enough to hold Bosco to only 6 points.
TROY WOOD

Under 9'bs 16/5/09 We played Taren Point and lost 44 - 6.
Well what a difference half time made. Greg must have given them an inspirational speech as they came out after halftime all fired up. With some much improved long kick offs and some great passing we managed to keep the second have to a very close match.
Will Hickey kept us in the game with some great on line defence and big bustling runs from Ryan, Logan and Billy with great support from the rest of the boys was much improved from previous weeks. Our defence this week was also a highlight with all the parents and supporters cheering with every great tackle, something we haven't seen in previous weeks.
But the highlight of the game must have been the try to Joel who after some good lead up work by all the team manage to score out wide which drew loud cheers from the side lines. Even Logan's dad Brian jumping in the air waving his linesman flag loosing his hat and not even stopping to pick it up showed how much it meant to all involved in the team.
Boys if we keep this up each week and train hard a win is only just around the corner. Congratulations to all the boys on a much improved effort.
Under 13’s
Engadine V Gymea 12-10 lost
Well this was a exciting game, Gymea caught our boys off guard in the first minute, with a quick try, so the pressure was on.
With some good defence from our boys, it wasn't to long before Maxi got to even things up. Brandon had a great kicking game, and Jurra was good out on the wing. Into half time Nipper had some great hands and defence, things were tight until Gymea slipped by us for another try. Pressure on, Joel, Ben and Jordan went hard, and our new boy Reece made some good yards. Nipper went in for a try, but we were unlucky with the kick at goal, time ticking away our boys gave it a shot but we ended up letting the game slip away just through some lazy handling of the ball. So we move on and learn from our mistakes, and we look forward to next week!! See you there
mum on the sideline!!!!
9A'S MATCH REPORT - ST JOEYS LOST 10-16 ROUND 3
|
After a couple of big wins where we had the chance to throw the ball around and put on a few moves, we finally took part in a hard game of footy. Although on the wrong side of the score line, giving the boys their first loss, it was great to see them all put in such big effort right until the final bell. With more hard games coming up that type of performance will see us win more then lose. Special mention to Jake Blackford who was the stand out forward on the field and Ben Watts who set up our attack well and showed the big boys how to tackle.

9A'S MATCH REPORT - GYMEA WON 16-10 ROUND 4
|
Congratulations boys on a big win against last years premiers Gymea. Reputations counted for little down at the gorilla cage on Saturday morning, as the Dragons let them know that they were in for a tough day right from the kick off. Although behind early the boys stuck to there game plan and it paid off. With The Bull, Axe, and Blocker getting through the tough stuff up the middle, Snapper, Maddog, & Simsy were able to work the edges of the ruck nicely. Once we gained the upper hand Jacobe The Rooster let the backs see plenty of ball with The Animal, Bruisier, and especially Lachlan proving hard to handle out wide. As a team it was a great defensive effort, led as always up front by knuckles & at the back by Slippery. Special mention goes to Ben the Bullant Watts who from halfback led the side around the park like a veteran, setting up a great try and scoring a beautie for himself. Well done boys very proud of you all.

Yet another game that was there for the taking, but constant pushed passes and penalties contributed to cheap turnover and our demise.
The competition is even and any side is capable of winning it, including us.

In a somewhat see sawing affair we got away with the 2 points in the end against a determined Menai side.
We shot out to an early 16-0 lead, with meat pies to Cambo, Duncs and Nipper.
Again we turned over cheap ball and didn’t finish off our sets to let them back in to 16-8 at oranges.
What ever that is said at half time always falls on deaf ears but luckily we scored 2 more meat pies thanks to the quick reflexes of Duncs down the right side to go to a 24-8 lead. One would think this unbeatable, but we ended up our own worst enemies, again, and let them back into the game.
Fortunately we hung on and got the chocolates.
Our body language in the sheds at half time and a full time wasn’t good, even though we had won.
No doubt some more work on our fitness and again ball control at training during the week is required.
We welcome back Richo after a short stint down the coast, and thanks to Cambo for helping out even though his game time was limited due to injury.
Duncs stats say it all, again Ebby a thousand tackles and Fordo “Mr Reliable” again didn’t let us down.
Next week the fish eaters!

A-Grade Report – V’ Aquinas – round 5 – Blaxland Oval – 10/5/09 – Won 60-6
We were faced today with the problem of 5 players out with minor injuries but thanks to the help of Adam Jones (Coach of A-Res) we were able to bring up 2 players in David White and Daniel Brubaker to help out. Congratulations must go to the A-Res side as this left their bench low on numbers and they still managed to notch up a great win against a team that is a good finals contender. Thanks must also go to all these players and supporters who backed up by travelling over to support the A-grade squad following their game.
With a score line of 60 to 6, and taking into consideration that we decided to call the game off 5 minutes early, it wouldn’t be hard to cast an impression on the quality of the Aquinas team. Aquinas are working hard to run a squad in the A-Grade comp and too their credit they just kept backing up yesterday and giving their coach and supporters everything they had and at the end of the game were gracious in defeat.
We were only 2 minutes into the game when Shane Chapman produced some beautiful razzle dazzle (almost Houdini like) to put our first points on the board and converted by Mitch 6-0. Our second try came in the 12 minute of the game following a scrum feed and win seeing the ball pass 3 or 4 set of hands to set Jared Goode up in the corner and converted by Mitch 12-0. Less than 3 minutes later Shane Chapman produces another of his super fast scoop and runs seeing him with only the fullback to contend with and eventually crossing over taking us to a 18-0 lead following yet another successful goal kick from Mitch out wide. With 7 minutes left on the clock and our guys pressing the Aquinas goal line, we had a slip up in play seeing the Aquinas fullback score a length of the field goal under the post. Bugger!!!! With 50 seconds left on the clock, Andrew Johnston cleans up on what was some scrappy play of footy and is rewarded with 4 points and yet again converted by Mitch seeing us go to the half-time break with a score-line of 24 to 6.
As you can imagine the second half became a bit of a score-a-thon and as such I have listed the tries below in the order they took place:
5 min’s into the second half Nathan Bullock barges over and yet another successful kick from Mitch. Not long after this Shane Chapman crosses for his third try of the day and yep, another successful kick from Mitch. It was only 2 minutes later that Mitch showed us the quality player he is after a brilliant run down the centre of the field followed by a precision pass (some 20 Mtrs) out wide to Shane Chapman seeing him go over for his fourth try and you guessed it, Mitch yet again successful. Our next tries went to new comers David White and Daniel Brubaker who constantly were involved in all areas of the game and as a result were both awarded with 4 points. Our last try of the day went to out big man Nathan Bullock seeing him barge his way through what was some very tired defence finishing the score at 60 to nil. A special mention must go to Mitch Neylan who had 10 kicks at goal today and successfully got them all (with most taken out wide). All players went well today but a special mention must go to Zach Besant. Zach demonstrated some serious anger management issues today which would have left Mike Tyson in doubt about getting in front of Zach. We are definitely fortunate to have Zach playing for the Dragons and trust he is around for many years to come. Chris Wood for the way in which he constantly backs up and supports his team mates. Scott Nancarrow, Nathan Bullock, Michael Newton and Nathan Harris for your hard hitting runs leaving many of the Aquinas boys wishing they had stayed home for Mothers Day.
Once again, special thanks to David White and Daniel Brubaker for stepping up and helping the A-Grade squad out today and also to all supporters that made the trip over to Blaxland Oval to support the team….Many thanks from all the players!!!!!

A-Reserves Report:
Our 3rd victory on the trot was a lovely Mother's Day present to all our mothers, many of whom turned up to watch the win. However, due to various injuries and absences we fielded a full team but again only a 3 man bench.
We started very well. We really looked like a well disciplined, well drilled football team. Players followed the coach's match plan by completing our sets, giving a good kick chase and playing in the opposition's quarter. Our defence stuck solid too with good defensive efforts by "T.V." Todd Vicary, Benny Cotton, Dave "Hitman" Hird, Danny "Mr Consistency" Brubaker, Mitch "the Axe" Hatch and Nathan "Bones" Jones. Notable was a courageous field kick taken on the fly by Heath "Tireless" Dunlop. Glen "the Head" Dryland had a good solid game all-round and did a Phil Blake when he toed the ball through and scored. "Golden Boots" converted.
Then after not scoring in a couple of raids we appeared frustrated and squandered some chances. Arncliffe failed to capitalise and we hit back again with a try which seemed to be against the run of play late in the second half. Nick Lee made a spectacular bust and sprinted away up the left side well supported by Skip Ryan who unselfishly passed inside to "Crash" Ridley. Kurt raced away 20 meters to score under the posts and capped a very strong performance with that try. "Golden Boots" converted. We went to half-time 12-0 ahead and looking to comfortably have the upper hand.
Arncliffe responded in the 2nd half with hard hitting defence that unsettled us. We gave away back to back penalties that led to them scoring. Shades of our draw with Caringbah -Cronulla in Round 3. They looked like getting back into the match. Nevertheless the determination in this side is strong and our players got it together. Following a very strong set by our forwards and a penetrating kick by Adam "Coach" Jones, Heath "Tireless" Dunlop scored in the left corner on the end of a slick backline movement. Kane "Golden Boots" Ryan converted again! Then they scored again leaving a nervous final minutes until full-time and victory to the Dragons 18-14.
Dom Paranieii was relentless and clearly deserved the best & fairest award. The score line ended up 3 tries apiece. We have to realise that although we had the better of the majority of the game and it is vital to win the close ones, Skip's goal kicking was the difference.
On a positive note while we were a bit patchy congratulations for a lot of brave performances despite missing players and others carrying injury (particularly Nick Lee and Tom Hubbard) for a hard fought win.
Just a bit of housekeeping now. Players, could you please give me or Greg Bird your email addresses so the match reports and other information can be sent to you? Also not all players have arranged sponsors. Sponsors benefit by having their business mentioned in connection with players in Match Reports and ground announcements at home games. A-Grade Report – V’ De La Salle – round 6 – Anzac Oval – 17/5/09 – Won 32-10
Unfortunately I couldn’t make this weeks game which makes things a little difficult when putting a report together on the game, so bear with me and I will do my best.
Apart from round 2 where we played Cronulla Caringbah we have had a relatively easy draw and have been looking forward to a hard hit out against a strong side and that is what De La Salle delivered yesterday when we played them at Anzac on what was a perfect sunny afternoon in front of a big, vocal crowd ready to support the lads. De La won the toss and elected to give us the up hill run in the second half and when they were first to put points on the board, there were some quiet concerns and we knew that we had to quickly respond and that is exactly what played out, seeing us go to a half-time score line of 16-10 Engadine’s way.
With an up-hill run in the second half and the final score reading 32–10 Engadine’s way, you don’t have to be Einstein to realise how happy Aaron Palmer (Coach) and Kendal Flint (Ass Coach) were with the performance of this team. I managed to catch up with them later that night where it was obvious to me the praise they had for all of those that took to the field today. Special mentions though must go to our 3 point award this week in Andrew Johnston (Captain) who was involved in just about every area of the game today and lead the side as a true captain should. 2 points went to Mitch Neylan, I have said it before and will probably keep saying it, but we are very fortunate to have Mitch in our side not only for his brilliant footy skills but also for his kicking game. 1 point this week went to Shane Chapman, like the previous week where Shane scored 4 tries and was involved in setting up plenty more, the same was for this weekend. Shane is like a little general on the paddock constantly talking to his players and always reading the game many steps ahead of everyone else.
Special mention must also go to our forward pack, as I was informed that Kendal pulled them aside before the game and gave them one clear instruction and that was to go out from the kick-off and be relentless in what they do best (maybe not in such a nice manner but I think you get my point?) and that is exactly what they did and the results speak for themselves.
At this stage we think we are playing last years premiers in Como-Jannali and this is one game we have been looking forward too. More details will be provided regarding time and location but your support at this game would be greatly appreciated by all the team.
Lastly a special thanks to Matt Chapman and the guys from “The Hill” (sponsor) who help out our side today by packing up the field after the game. This may not seem like much but it was a tremendous help and greatly appreciated.

A Reserve Grade Report Round 6 vs Renown at Anzac Oval 17.05.09 - Lost 28 - 16.
Coming off 3 straight Wins and a lot of momentum this was our chance to move to 2nd with a win over Renown. We started really well in all departments with some good sets of 6 and spirited defence. There was good execution of the game plan. Michael Warren scored first and we were looking good but then back to back penalties against us saw them score and indicated a drop in the disciplined play we began with. Mick Warren scored again but then they scored off a kick and converted. Down 12-10 at half-time.
Renown attacked us down the right running in 6 tries from kicks in play and second phase play. Our defence consistently failed us down the left side all match. We are left to wonder why. There is no lack our courage or on field commitment in this team. Answer: The main problem is lack of fitness. Tired players make mistakes; dropped ball, high tackles giving away penalties, missed tackles and not forming a good defensive pattern. To convert good on-field commitment to victory requires more attendance at training and some additional private training otherwise it is no good at the end of the season reminiscing how we could have gone better.
On a positive note last week we sent out the SOS for more players. It was very encouraging to see us field a full side and bench with several additional players ready to pull on the Guernsey. No would could say we did not have a go and play our best. Michael Warren was clearly the man of the match with 2 tries an offload that set up a 3rd and topping off a good defensive effort did a hit that rattled the Renown bloke's ancestors. Dominic Paranihi was very solid and had another good game in attack and defence. Dave Hird easily topped the tackle count and said "Eat my shorts" when he sat on the face of the player who pantsed him to the mirth of the crowd. Good games by Heath Dunlop and Kurt Marsh rewarded in a try a piece. Good tackling by Cameron Stacey in his first game back and another honest effort all round by Dennis Marsh. He was well supported by Kurt Ridley.
To beat Renown we have to produce at least 80% of our best game. We came up with about 75% on the day.
Many thanks to all our proud sponsors and thanks too to all the supporters for turning up and of course our staff, who are quite often players who did not get a game through injury but help out by assisting with all the jobs that need to done to run a football team properly - coach Adam Jones, trainers Nathan Jones and Ben Walker, assorted zambucs, strappers, rubbers, stats men, time keepers and bloke's running the bench etc. Thank you all!
