6B V’s Bosco Round 1
Won 20 – 16
What a great start to the 2011 season. Charlie led us onto the Dogs Park as our captain and led from the front. Beau was on fire with his tackles and bagged a hat trick. Kane was a standout today with his runs, tackles and a try (in our eyes), earning him Man of the Match. Blake and Jarrod hit the ball up strongly gaining us easy metres. Our young guns Cooper, Koby and Ryder all worked hard to tackle the opposition and were always there in support. Well done boys an excellent start to the season.

6B V’s Aquinas Colts Round 2
Won 28 - 4
A perfect sunny day for round 2 saw us at home up against Aquinas Colts. And what a perfect day it was, we were ready right from the whistle with our defence coming hard from all sides of the park. We had blistering runs up the sideline from Koby, Kane, Blake and Jarrod. Our bigger boys Charlie, Beau and Braydon led the smaller boys around the park with hard hitting tackles and great speed to score some impressive tries. Ryder put in every effort to keep the Colts from getting thru the defensive line and Cooper ran his little heart out, getting better and better each week. A great game boys, enjoy your Easter break.

7 Green V’s Como Round 1
Won 44- 0
Well, what a start to the season! The boys were revving and rearing to go on Saturday and boy did they take off. Jy Garvey scored the first try of the season with a great pass off from Kurt. We had 4 try scorers (Luke 5, Jy 2, Joel 1 & Lachlan 1) and 4 goals converted by Luke, Kurt, Kooper and Jett. All the boys tackled beautifully. Jake was a never ending tackling machine - not bad for his first game and earned himself the player trophy for the week. Joel made a massive run and great side step to score his first try for the year. Riley, Billy and Lachie were all hard work horses in the middle of the play all game. Birthday boys Kooper (Milkshake award) and Luke (this week’s captain) ran and tackled with gusto and Luke was unstoppable to the try line when given the ball on the run. Jett, our other milkshake award winner and a new player this year, converted his first ever attempt at goal and like this team mates tackled and ran until the final bell. A great job by all the boys and I think we have a very exciting year ahead. Bring on next week.
7 Green V’s Cronulla Caringbah Round 2
Won 40-8
What another great effort by all the boys this week. After a 1/2hr delay to start the game the boys were all fired up and ready to go. Kurt was away and scoring the first try of the game within the first couple of minutes. This was 1 of his 3 trys for the day and he earned the McDondalds award for the week. We welcomed back Nick Freeman to the team for his first game of the season. He did a great job and was awarded with the Milkshake award for his effort. Trys this week went to Kurt 3, Luke and Kooper 2 each, Jett 1. Goals were scored by Kooper, Luke, Jett and Jake. Luke was awarded players trophy this week. Jy, Lachie, Riley, Billy, Joel and the rest of the team continued to tackle and defend beautifully and my co scorer mentioned that he was impressed with our try scoring ability. Well done to all the boys. Have a great holiday break and see you for our next exciting game.
8A v De La Salle (1) Round 1
Won 66-0
After what I thought was a disappointing trial match against Aquinas last week the boys trained the house down and took that into the game. Although we were up against a B or even C grade side the boys showed their hard training payed off. Each boy did their job and played as they were asked. I don’t want to point any one player out because if I could give them all 3 points this week I would. I would however like to emphasise that I’ve been drilling into the boys ‘defence wins games’. The fact we kept a clean sheet and De La didn’t even look like scoring shows the boys are listening!
Great effort boys keep it up.
A happy Fergo.
U8A’s v De La Salle (2) Round 2
Won 56-0
I don’t know how they are grading down at Del La, but after beating De La(1) 66-0 last week this week the opposition wasn’t much better. Another soft hit out for the boys who are yet to be tested. A strong performance again in defence showing with no tries being scored. Our drills and skills are paying off in this department. A strong first two quarters were put in however in the third the ugly HOG came to the game and the boys lost their way. Too much talk and not enough listening cost a bigger score. The boys have great potential and if they are to go all the way they must listen and stick to what they are told to do. If they don’t, when they come up against a decent opposition they are in for a rude shock. SO boys keep up the hard work and most of all listen and learn.
Have a great holidays boys and remember – “Defence wins games”
Fergo.
U8A’s V’s Como Shark Park
Won 44 – 0
Well after the invite to Shark park the boys were jumping out of their skins to get out to the hallowed ground of the old Endeavour Field (seems Anzac doesn’t cut it anymore). We were originally matched up against Bosco, but after playing after us last week they were not prepared to play, which I understand as they got beaten by De La (2) 20-14. So we were put with Aquinas, again they were a little gun shy after hearing about our rep. So on to the third option was the well rated Como who apparently gave our C side a real touch up last week. So after 10 minutes of re arranging, the boys took the field and took it well. Como didn’t know what had hit them with some bruising defence from all the boys. They played like a team with all I can describe is as gang tackling defence and tremendous attack. The opposition was the best we had come up against so far and for a minute they were sorting the boys out, but the boys stepped up to the challenge as I know they can and after a short 15 minute game they walked away victors 44-0. We are thinking about getting some boom box crowd noise and giving them all sunny’s simulating a night game with a huge crowd atmosphere. Seemed to work a treat.
The boys have a couple weeks break and hopefully when we come back we will get a decent game.
A happy Fergo!
U8 GREY NURSE Round 1
We saw a good effort from all our boys for our first club match together. It was great to see all the boys get involved and showing enthusiasm. There was some good running and tackling shown by Kurt, Sampson and Owen. Samuel, Ryan and Zac showed consistent running, passing and tackling throughout the game. Jordan made some top tackles too.
Our Man of the Match Brayden had a great game showing a ‘Never Say Die’ attitude in a team that was behind early in the game.
We had a few minor injuries but it was great to see all the boys bite the bullet and get back on the field as we had no reserves.
We have a lot to work on at training so hopefully in time we will all improve ourselves and enjoy ourselves more. Thanks to all the parents for their help and Good Luck next week Boys.
10C V’s Bosco Round 1
Won 36-4
Wow what a start to the year. Taking the field with only 10 players the whole team stood up and was counted. From Tyler to Dylan right across the park our little men took it to Bosco from the kick off and didn’t stop till the final siren sounded. A resounding win by the Dragons 36-4. The platform for the win was laid by our player of the match Dylan, helped by Sammy and Paul making sure the backline was given plenty of room out wide to do the fancy stuff. Dylan was rewarded today with a try but it was our little men who did the all the scoring today. TJ crossed for 2 tries and converted but our tiny fullback Tyler stood out in attack crossing 4 times and converting one of his own tries for a personal tally of 18 points. Both little Ryan and Hayden got on the score sheet with a goal each.
Our defence across the field was solid all game. I know our attack will always work, but to defend like we did today a couple of players short, was the stand out. On the 4 or 5 occasions that they broke through the front line it was our fearless fullback Tyler who saved the day. I know it’s only the first game but if the start is any guide we will be in for a successful year. Let’s keep improving boys and keep working hard. Great start to the year well done
15B v Como Round 1
Lost 24-8
A promising start to the year for the boys going down 24-8 against Como. Although it may seem we were beaten easily, our boys were right in this till about midway through the second half. We defended well and tried hard to stick to our game plan but silly mistakes and penalties made it hard on ourselves. The forwards led the way especially Luis organising from dummy half and Trent really laying a strong platform with some great running up the middle. Our attack was a little stifled with our regular halfback injured but that is taking nothing away from Ned and Jesse who filled in great. I think the biggest improvement will come when we all get to training and work on our structure a bit more. I’m really looking forward to the year ahead with you boys, believe in yourselves and you will scare this competition. Well done boys lets keep working hard together.
15B v Aquinas Round 2
Lost 22-12
A solid effort from the boys against a side desperate to get over the top of us. We took it to them early laying a strong platform but silly penalties and mistakes gave Aquinas an easy advantage. Brodie and Trent again led the way making huge ground each time they touched the ball. But lazy defence gave them an early lead which set us on the back foot and dropped our confidence. We went to the break down 12-8.
We started the second half ok but again a bit of nervous play and silly errors cost us dearly. The structure fell apart and on the back of cheap penalties Aquinas were able to build strong field position and capitalized. We managed to cross the line again in the second half but the game had gone and we eventually lost 22-12.
There is a heap of improvement left in the boys and it shows each week. Hard training and some solid commitment and as I have said we will scare a lot of teams. A win is not far away boys, keep at it.
