6Blue V’s Taren Point Titans Round 5
Won – 22 - 8
A spectacular sunny Autumn Saturday had us making the trip to Titan Territory. The boys were all keen and eager to tear up the Titans and that is exactly what happened when Brayden used his pace down the sideline to score the first points.
Cooper, Zane and Ryder continued the tear up with charging runs busting thru the Titans defensive line. Koby, Blake and Kane all showed us that little men have guts and determination to bring down every opponent no matter their size. Beau was a pleasure to watch darting and weaving thru the opposition to score 2 tries. Charlie used every effort and strength to bag our first goal of the season. Ryan scored himself Man of the Match with impressive runs, ferocious tackles and no tears. The boys, listened to Rosco, got down to business and came out on top to have a very impressive win.
Tries – 2 Beau Wallace 3 - Brayden Wallace.

6Blue V’s Sutherland Loftus Round 6
Won – 22 - 12
What a game, after a dusty slow morning we all managed to make it to Waratah Oval on time and play some great footy. Coach Rosco needed his coffee to focus and then the game was on. Koby, Blake, Zane and Cooper our “Big” little men all made great metres up the middle and defended every time Sutho had the ball. Charlie, Kane and Braydon showed us what Dragon’s are made of and never let the team down with hard runs up the middle earning them all tries. Beau and Ryan worked hard all game in both defence and attack, making some handy runs to improve our field position. Ryder showed support in all areas of the game and made some hard solid tackles. Jarrod our “injured man” finally took to the field in the last third and was impressive with his fast runs thru the Waratah’s defence. Great game boys, you made us proud.
Tries – 2 Charlie Te Hira 2 - Brayden Wallace 1 – Kane Bowron

U6 Yellow V’s Gymea Round 5
Won 18 - 12
You can’t ask for a better start than scoring a try from the kick off and this is what happened when Brandon Wolkiewicz scooped up the ball in the first play of the game. From this point on the boys settled into the game and traded sets in both defence and attack with Gymea.
Some strong defence on our line from Hayden Williams who made a try saving tackle in the corner then backed up to make the next tackle and almost hold a much bigger kid out…applause given for a great effort. This was also our best game this year as a team. With Jack Haigh, Zac Hendorson Price and Ryan Turner doing the hard yards up the middle and some light stepping from Christopher Mexsom which saw him palm his way for a few extra yards we ended up playing a lot of the game with the edge over the Gorillas. Our best try of the season (with Ryan giving fast clean ball in at dummy half) saw Brandon, Jack, Luke Jones and finally Jayke Fibbins handle the ball until we crossed in the corner. Great team try boys!!!
Man of the match went to Kai Thatcher for getting involved in every play in both attack and defence…Two trys each for Brandon and Jayke and another great conversion by Jayke.
7 Green V’s Menai Roosters Round 5
Won 40 - 12
Although the score may not reflect it, for the first time this year, our boys were challenged against some good tacklers and attacking plays. With it not long before the coach needs to stand on the sideline, our Coach decided this would be a good week to stay off for part of the game. Our boys stood up to the challenge with our captain of the week, Kurt, really taking control and not only directing play beautifully but tackled well and scored 4 trys. Luke also stood up with 3 trys, a goal and some great defence. Lachie ducked and weaved to be our other try scorer and converted with a goal. Other goal scorers this week were Joel and Jake. All players did a great job. Nick, Kooper and Jy defended well against a side that had some bigger boys running well. Our award winners this week were Riley (man of the match) who stepped up a pace this week and worked really hard, Joel (Maccas) for his endless efforts and Jett (Pub) who tackled and ran all game. Well done boys.
7 Green V’s De La Salle Round 6
Won 14 - 8
It was another tight game this week. The boys started off well scoring all 14 points in the first third of the game. Tight defence from De La Salle stopped our usual runners from making it to the try line in the second and third terms. Our big boys that usually find the try line opted for the side line this week which we will work on at training. With the absence of Jake, Jy Garvey stepped up to be our defending machine from the kick off and received our players trophy this week. Nick Freeman received our Maccas reward and Luke the pub award. Trys this week went to Kurt 2 and Luke 1 with Kurt converting the only goal for the game. We have Yarrawarrah this week and hope to make it a clean sweep for the 1st round.
8C V’s Gymea Gorillas Round 2
Won 32 - 8
First of all I would like to congratulate all the team members for their first win on Saturday May 14.
They all played fantastically against The Gymea Gorillas at Anzac Oval, scoring 8 tries and winning the game 32 – 28. It was great to see the big smiles on the kids faces.
Brayden played a top game finding Zac quickly from each play and managed to run in 2 sneaky tries from smart dummy half runs. Zac did a great job organizing our runners and in defence led the way upsetting the oppositions play & causing dropped balls more then once.
Owen woke everyone up with big strong forward runs up the middle & showed our boys the way – crossing the line later in the game for a well earnt try. Samson ran as hard as ever busting tackles and also found the try line with a great try. Samuel, proving hard to tackle made some zippy runs and was right in there tackling alongside Kurt, Jules & Connah who also ran well and chased all game as well as showing very good ball handling skills (almost no mistakes). Our man of the match Jordan played his heart out running and tackling hard and scoring 4 tries. Keep it up Boys. You should all be very proud of yourselves as every one of you played your role in a great team effort!
U13A V’s De La Salle Round 6
Won 16 - 12
Anyone that was lucky enough to be down at Anzac Oval last Saturday afternoon witnessed a quality game of football at the U13 level. This also turned out to be a thriller.
We went into this game with three "A" graders out for various reasons which left us with twelve "A" graders to play a top 4 side that we are very evenly matched with.
Matthew Smith came up from the 13B's and played a full game on the wing for us after playing a full game in B grade and went very well, tackling well and making no mistakes in his carries.
Other 13B players occupied our bench and Kyle McCarry came on briefing when James the "Hitman" Wayland needed a breather.
In a dog fight of a first half in which we scored first through an unconverted try to James from a set move, De La's gun five eight scored a converted try for them to lead 6-4 at oranges.
In the second half we scored another try from a set move through Jake which was converted from out wide by Bevan for us to lead 10-6. De La then scored again through their gun five eight and converted to lead 12-10.
With less than 3 minutes left all seemed lost but we got down their end again and James scored again with his powerful running and Bevan converted from out wide to give us a 16-12 lead.
There was still one more twist when De La got the ball back from the kickoff with one minute to go for one final attack which we repelled and they turned over the ball.
Our forwards on the day were superb and Jye Ebb duly won the Man of the Match for a non stop performance closely followed by Liam Rae who had his best game to date and won an award.
Ryan Levin our half back also had a very good organizing and defensive game and won an award.
Well-done to all of you for such a gutsy effort, I was one very proud coach.
Scorers: Tries: James Wayland 2, Jake Wheeler 1 Goals: Bevan Gemmell 2.
A-Grade V’s Sutherland Round 5
Won – 26-8
Another very solid performance today from our team when the two competition leaders took battle in front of a very good crowd on our oppositions ground in near perfect weather. We went into today’s game without the services of Mitch Neylan following an injury from last weekend but this did open up the opportunity for Steve “Milky” Coughlan to step up into the Hooker role and he certainly didn’t let the side down playing a great game and I’m sure went home a little sore for his tremendous efforts. The first half of this game resembled more like an arm wrestle between two very evenly matched strong men, seeing both teams completing their sets of six and in the process making good metres. Ultimately though, Sutherland found a crack in our defence which resulted in them posting the first points of the afternoon. With seven minutes left on the clock it looked like we were going to the break four points to nil down when Jack Fairhall put a sensationally placed kick across the park to Kain Ebb who would have leaped at least twice his height to retrieve the ball at full pace, land on his feet and outwit two defenders for one of the best tries on the afternoon. With the scores now levelled up and only a few minutes on the clock remaining until half time, Sutherland picked up a penalty on half way allowing them to kick their way into great attacking position and eventually scoring on the bell out wide and going to the break 8-4 in front.
The second half got off to a great start when in the first 3 minutes, young Chad Richmond gave a perfectly timed pass to a full paced Paul Smith who covered a good 50 meters before offloading the ball to Matt Stubbs who did a great job backing up Paul and resulting in Matt going over and Chad converting the goal to take the score line to 12-8 back in our favour. It was great to watch our side lift following this start to the second half and like when we played De La with the same intensity; I doubt that there would be many teams that could get close to matching our side. As always, our big guys did a great job up front but special mention must be made of Scott Nancarrow who had a great game constantly eager to run the ball forward paving the way for our speedsters to do their thing coupled with his very solid defence. Further tries were scored by Chris Wood, Pat Carr and Chad Richmond with Chad also converting 3 from 5 attempts.
Today’s game was a great effort by our team, in particular the second half when we took control of the game and showed what we are capable of achieving when we lift our heads, play as a team and stick to our game plan. Well done guys and a great win!

A-Grade V’s Gymea Round 6
Won – 22 - 20
We played last year’s Premiers today in what was a very tuff hit out at their ground and like when we played De La Salle a few weeks ago, we got the win in the end but we could have made things a lot easier on ourselves. The good news is that if we can win games by just slogging it out with the opposition, I’m absolutely positive no team in this comp will get even close to us when we play at our full potential.
Gymea got the early points today and to rub salt into the wound followed it up with another converted try from the kick off taking the score line to 12-0, 13 minutes into the game. With this role on Gymea was gathering momentum, in particular with their forwards pack who all had a brilliant game. This role on by the opposition proved a very good test for our defence as we did have a few positional changes today with a number of players from our starting side away but in true Engadine fashion, our lads scrambled well eventually tiring Gymea down and turning the game back in our favour resulting in a nice team try out wide to James Andrew. With less than 10 minutes on the clock Andrew Johnston crosses over the white line in an almost identical try out wide and with Mitch Neylan now in tune with his boot we find ourselves chasing 12-10 behind going to the break. With only minutes left on the clock our young five eight, Jack Fairhall manages to open up Gymea’s defence and put on a great individual run to off load to Kirk Ridley who eventually went over under the post taking us into halftime 16-12 up.
The second half resembled more like ground hog day when Gymea went in for and early try followed by “YES” scoring again from the kick off taking the score back into their favour 20-16 with 30 odd minutes to play. The next 28 minutes provided moments of brilliance from both sides but neither coming up with the points when in the dying minutes of the game and 10 metres out from Gymea’s line, Jack Fairhall sniffs out a weakness and puts through a nicely weighted kick to our flying centre Pat “the rat” Carr who gathers the ball and crosses the line to level the scores with under 2 minutes remaining on the clock. I have spoken in previous reports on our goal kickers averages and if there was ever a kick that was going to test him out it was today when Mitch Neylan lined the ball up 5 metres in from the side line, the Gymea crowd heckling him, and both benches and officials deadly silent, Mitch moved in for the kick which never looked like missing resulting in the final score 22-20.
Special thanks must go to Logan McGlinchy who backed up today from playing A-reserves to help us out. This was Logans first game up in A-Grade and Gymea did him no favours in welcoming him. To Logans credit, he did extremely well and you would have been hard pressed knowing this was his first game at this level. Aaron Bruce was back to his devastating self today constantly in the faces of the opposition and leading our team on with his never give up attitude. Both Kain Ebb and Jack Fairhall, both playing their first year in A-grade had an absolute blinder today. If we kept a tackle count, I’m sure both of these guys would have been at the top of it. Congratulations also to Kirk Ridley who got his first try for the season but more importantly just keeps getting better and better each week as his confidence grows playing A-Grade.

A-Grade Reserves V’s Sutherland Round 5
Lost – 42 - 0
This week we played Sutherland at Sutherland Oval. Preparation for the game was thrown into disarray with the late news that we were no longer getting the bye because St Patricks had pulled out of the competition.
We had already lost a couple of players to A grade and most of the regular line up were unavailable due to holiday or work plans because of the bye. We also had a couple of late withdrawals with a resignation and an alarm clock issue. Some 20 minutes before the game we were not sure if we were going to even be able to field a team. The coach pulled on a jumper and that gave us the starting 13 plus two reserves. The first half saw Sutherland give us a bit of a touch up but the commitment and effort was there and considering we had so many new players in the team and we were playing yet another very talented under 23 side our boys should stand proud. The second half saw 15 or so minutes pass before Sutherland scored again and this was our best period of the game and along with the rest of the half our players showed heaps of Dragon heart and never gave up until the final bell. Cheeks put his hand up and played himself to a standstill and set a great example for the rest of the team, Matt Connor had his best game of the season and was a standout along with Steve Dabbin who rose to the challenge in the no. 6 position and had a great game against very strong opposition. Cameron Ring, Steve Ring and Viliam had strong games up front, Logan played well, swapping positions throughout the game and Brendan Horsnell and Michael Warren also had strong games in both offence and defence. Many thanks to the players that turned up at short notice allowing us to take the field and they were, Tom Hubbard, Brad Newman, Pat Kelly, Brendan Horsnell, Glen Dryland and Luke Nigro.
Myself, Adam and Ty were very proud of the effort from every player that took the field for us and if there were 16 awards to give out for effort every player would have received one.
Matt Connor, Steve Dabbin, Cameron Ring received the 3-2-1 points not in that order and Cameron won the free ticket to the sportsman’s luncheon (you have to attend the presentation to win this award). Michael Warren won the bistro award with another whole hearted effort in both attack and defence and Matt Connor got the nod for the players player award.
The Package.
