Team Reports
Round 12 U9C V De La Salle
|
A really tough game this week against our rivals De La. Unfortunately we had a loss going down 16-14 in what was a game of 2 different halves. We started slow looking anything but the team coming second in the comp. The boys just didn’t switch on and it wasn’t long before De La got the upper hand thru some sloppy defence. Our forwards couldn’t get the roll on that they had been getting in previous weeks. Because of this our attack was stifled and jilted. De La raced to a first half lead 16-0.Then half time came and our boys started their game! Our defence was rock solid and our attack began to flow. Our little men really put in the second half with Tyler brilliant at the back saving tries and making a stack of ground with the ball in hand, swerving and jinking like only he can earning him two great tries from two long runs. Cam too scored a great running try. Samuel also put in with some great ball running but his defence around the ruck was great. It was great the to see the boys have a change of attitude in the second half. The game hung in the balance for the final 5 minutes and we were unable to capitalise on some great field position close to De La's line. A couple of dubious refs calls could have helped but the game was gone in the first half. I’m super happy with the second half effort and hopefully we can learn from this going into the semis. Keep working hard boys we can all do it. |
8A V Cronulla Caringbah - Draw 12-12
We though a win was possible for this game but we walked away with a draw which was a fair result, as neither side were able to really get on top of the other. Harry and Dane were the try scorers and they were good tries in a very tight game. Daniel and Dane kicked the goals and kept us from slipping away.
Boy's I’m not going to say much about the game this week, even though I have enjoyed doing so all this year. Now that we are at the business end of the season, I don't want to send out mixed messages (get your dads to explain) :-)
Man of the match was Blake Hosking - You did a great job in the middle and it helped to keep us in the game. Dad was proud of you mate! Well done.
A Reserves v St Josephs – Navy Tridents - WON 30 - 18
Round 13
It is getting near the season’s end and both teams were under strength. Our squad was 16 but Joeys could only raise 12. Ben Leahy dropped back to help out. We were assisted by 2 younger players not usually on our roster Jake Denford and Rod Moefaauo and Westpac Hubbard had to return from retirement to make up the numbers. Many thanks to these guys who all, incidentally played very well. With a win next week we could squeak into the semis. Can we have some commitment for a finals flourish?
Na’baa the Panther was the players pick. Na’baa pulled off the hit of the round and scored a strong try. Steve “Overbelly” Dabin was creative at 5/8 and rewarded with a try. Half back Logan McGlinchey scored a good try, took over the kicking duties from Gavin Golden Boots Priestly and kicked 3 goals. Steve Milky Coughlan and Rod Moefaauo scored good tries. Kurt Slippery Marsh proved the value of a good kick chase when he was rewarded with an opportunistic try.
I can only speak with the highest regard for the men who showed.
Round 11: 11B V De La Salle at Anzac. Won 42-0
We knew today’s game wasn’t going to be much of a challenge so the coach decided to mix it up a bit. The big change was Taine being put into the front row. The boys practiced plenty of their set plays and were rewarded with tries to Ibby, Taine, Tristan and double for Noakesy. The conversions went to Ducky, Ibby, Brodie and Bailey, all this in the first half.
The second half wasn’t much different so the coach sat most of the big guns on the bench to slow the scoring. Greeny scored a double and Noakesy grabbed his 3rd for the day, and then added a Hayne Plane and Hi 5 across the bench to finish. The only conversion in the second half went to Brains, which hit the cross bar and trickled over.
Congratulations boys, there wasn’t a bad defender on the field. You guy’s put together an A grade performance, which is exactly what we need at this end of the season.
Man of the match went to Tristan, other awards went to Peach, Greeny and Bailey who all had outstanding games.
8A Vs Aquinas Won 24-0
Congratulations to the U8-A Dragons for finishing 3rd on the table.
I should give you all an individual wrap about how you played, but I'm not going to, because I'm a just big bad meany, and because this win was more than just about, "what he did" or "what I did" its about what you ALL did. In simple words everyone did their job, and we won. Those of you who needed to tackle more, and those of you who needed to run harder and straighter, you did it and it showed out there on the field.
Man of the match was Daniel – A solid effort in defence mate. You worked hard and got rewarded for it, so keep it coming champ!
It was a good way to end the season, but the real work begins now, and it’s what you do from here that will decide where you finish in this comp. This game was a good reminder of what this team is capable of, when each and everyone of it's players gives their best. You looked focused and in control of the game.
You now have 3 games ahead of you. Como who like to play a little rough, Cronulla who we drew against, and De La who owe us a rematch. Your Coach, Trainer and us parents all believe YOU CAN GO ALL THE WAY, but what we think doesn't matter, it's what YOU believe.
To be the best, you will have to give your best.
6 Blue Gala Day 15/08/10
4 Wins / 1 Loss
For 64 / Against 34
What a day. The boys fired up today with their best ever display of football I have seen these boys play. If anyone had said at the start of the season that we would have been competitive at the Gala day this year I would have laughed, but come Saturday going into the 1st division Semi’s undefeated, we had suddenly become the favourites. As the games were only 10 minutes, our plan was to score 1st in each game. The boys were that pumped up that we scored in the 1st set of tackles every game.
Unfortunately our day was cut unexpectedly short when De La Blue (2009 and 2010 winners) fielded an extra player with only 5 seconds to go. Kurt had broken the line and was destined to score the match winner, when a 9th player came from the sideline and tackled Kurt a meter short of the line. No one could believe their eyes.
The boys enjoyed their day and had a lot of fun. They have a real great Team Spirit and although they played so well on the field, they were just as happy playing in the creek. As a coach, I could not be more proud.

Rd 13 12A V Gymea – Won 10-4
A great result against the team that have been runners' up in the A division of the age group for the last 3 years and who we have never beaten.
In the first round they got us 12-10 and in the second round we kicked both goals from wide out to get a well earned 12-12 draw. This time we got them!
AND we needed to win the game to make the semis, so it was a great result under extreme pressure.
We were down 4-0 at halftime running down hill at the Zac and showed tremendous commitment, determination and patience in the second half to peg them back.
Once again those who witnessed the game know it was a top quality match for 12 year olds.
The whole team played extremely well but Man of the Match was Braiden Broadstock who had a powerhouse game in the second row.
Special mention must also go to James Wayland our front row leader and Brad Watts one of our centres for great games in both attack and defence. James was also selected in the NSW Primary Schools Rugby team during the week to play in Adelaide in September, Congratulations James from everyone at the Dragons!
Finally both our wingers Matheson Johns and Cain Hopkins had very solid games on the weekend and both scored tries, which is the way it should be.
Now the real season begins, so boys the jobs not done yet! If we play like last week, there is no reason why we can't get all the way to the GF.
