Club Sportsman's Lunch

Club Sportsman’s Lunch

Our major fundraiser for the year will be held on Friday 25th June at the St. Moritz room upstairs in the Engadine Tavern. The cost will be $100 per person and will include entertainment, MC, beer, wine and two course lunch.

It is most important that the entire club supports this function as it will be the major source of income for the club and will contribute greatly to the huge cost of replacing football jumpers for next season. At the very least, we expect to have to replace half the club jumpers in 2011.

We hope to be able to return each teams support with a contribution to the end-of-season plans.

To make this day a great success can you, or someone you know, contribute sporting memorabilia and/or raffle prizes?  It would be a tremendous help to the club if you could contribute or ask around and encourage others. Contributions can be made by contacting the club President – Grahame Wagener – 95204535.

Guest - Steve 'Blocka' Roach

Team Reports

12B’s Trial game V’s Goulburn

On Sunday I had my first trial game at Goulburn. We went through a few drills before the game. We had a team discussion about where we were going to play on the field. We ran on the field while the other team was waiting for us. We did the toss and they lost and they kicked off first. We caught the ball and we scored the first try. There were a few rough plays in the game. The next try was scored, it was by the other team. We kicked off and they dropped the ball, so we scored two more tries. Then they scored one. At the end of the game our team had won, the score was 16-8. There were 6 points given out; one to Jett, two to Josh and three to me. Josh and Jett both got a Goulburn hat and I got the match ball. Both teams got together and had a team photo. The game had finished and I went home.

12B’s Trial game V’s Gymea and Joey’s

Written by Matthew

On Saturday we had a trial game at the Joey’s home field. Our games were against Joey’s and Gymea. Joey’s and Gymea played first. At first we did some warm ups before our game. 20 minutes was up then we played Gymea it was tough against them and the score was 0-0.

When 20 minutes was up we played  Joey’s. There was a particular player in that team, number 12, who was very good. They kicked off and we caught the ball. The first try was scored by the other team and the same with all the other tries. There were 2 players in our team that got hurt, they were Liam and Josh. The game had finished and we got a drink and a chocolate. One hour later we went to Cooper street park and we had a sausage sandwich and we rode our scooters. By Matthew

Engadine Dragons U6 Red Vs Taren Point Titans
Won 34-6

Firstly welcome to all the parents and kids to the Dragons for the new season.  Today's game was the first for many of the kids but it was hard to tell.  Some great tries were scored and the tackling was excellent.

I am sure we are in for a fun year.  A special mention to the Titans little number 7 who was entertaining for all who watched.

Well done boys!

6 Greens Vs Aquina's 26 All

Great performance by all the boys in the first game on a very hot morning down at Blaxland Oval. Two late tries saw the boys draw level and tie up the game, however the best part of this game was the goal line defence...the boys really dug in and held out the Aquinas on a few occasions. Award winners for the day

Joel Fry - Man of the Match - Great team effort by Joel who was always eager to get into dummy half, do the hard yards or tackle - scored a great try from an attacking play

Lachlan Colenso - Tackled all game and scored 3 tries, 2 of them towards the end of the game to draw level

Jack Nisbet - Rushed out of the line all game in defense piling on the pressure

7 Green Match Report

Today the 7 G’s played the Yarrawarrah Tigers.

The boys played really well for their first game together and seemed to enjoy  the game and especially their first win for the season.

Our team:  Samuel Hughes, Drew Lane, Logan McKinlay, Owen Williams, Mitchell George, Aaron Hanlon, Ty Parkes.

Well done boys you deserve a big pat on the back.

The 7Gs would like to thank Eli Ferguson, Cooper Duffy and Sam Thompson for helping us out today, and we hope the support continues.

8 MAKOS V ST PATS      LOST 26-12

A great effort from the boys in their first game of the season playing a side that was quite obvious a good side. Strong, tough running from Lachlan F, Jake and Heath. Our defense as a team was outstanding; everyone helped everyone out, a great team effort. Possibly our smallest guys on the field, Josh and Jackson, took on each defender hard, regardless of size. Great potential shown from Jayden in his first year of football. Great organization from Jared and Lachlan M who played dummy half and first receiver most of the game. This was our first game, however much improvement can be made by watching the other teams play and making sure we are turned around and ready for the quick play the ball. We also need to remember to step in so we don’t run into touch. All in all a fantastic effort! Looking forward to watching the improvement as the year goes on. Thanks also to Blake and Ethan for helping out. Tries went to Jake.

Engadine Vs Gymea U8 Whalers - Score was 11 Try's and 6 Goals to Zip
Welcome back to a new season of footy boys!
We came out ready to play and walked away with an easy win against the Gymea side.
There were some great tackles made, and some barn storming tries, and the team defense in particular was outstanding, but I think the enthusiasm in trying to make our plays work was the highlight for me.
I will try to highlight individual achievements as well team efforts throughout the year, but for this round I would just like to focus on the team.... plus I'm new to this!!
We are a new team made up of old and new footy mates, and some of you haven't played together before, so I want to remind all of you that you are now ONE TEAM. We play for each other, encourage and look out for each other, and most importantly never ever stop trying for each other.
I won't run up an individual tally of who scored and who kicked a goal because ALL OF YOU contributed to the final score.
Nah Just Kidding!
Steven - Goal
Jayden, Blake, Ethan, Harry, Daniel - Try
Dane, Harrison, Sam - Tries
Man of the match: Ethan - Well done son.
Well done boys but don't get to carried away with our easy win... there are much harder sides out there waiting to give us a contest, so train hard and practice, and have fun doing it!
Parents please let me know if you have any concerns, views or opinions about the format of this newsletter.

What a great start to the season for our boys. This year we welcomed in 6 new boys to the squad. We have trained hard now for 6 weeks and the boys put in an effort to show that hard work! Although the score was big in our favor it was our defense that won us the game. Each player put their body on the line. With strong defense it was then up to the big boys to strut their stuff with some great hard running by our man of the match Dylan who was supported by Ryan and both Blake and Luke. With a new first receiver this year in TJ our boys really used all the skills they had been working on in the pre-season. To see each player put in this week it gave me great encouragement as coach of what our year could be! Keep up the great work boys its only early but I’m really looking forward to the season ahead.

U11 C’s Engadine Dragons vs. Gymea Gorillas Won 34 – 20

Our first game was against Gymea who made it in the grand final last year so we knew it was going to be a hard game. All the boys lacked enthusiasm in the warm up and it showed in the first 10 minutes. Our only try in the first half went to Chase with a great run. Gymea had a few big boys and some of our boys couldn’t put them down. This led to tries to Gymea and had us down 16 to 6 at half time. The second half didn’t start too good when Gymea scored off the kick off. The last 15 minutes was near perfect everyone put in. Some great runs from our big boys Pimmy and Kyle gave us plenty of metres. Tilly, Kurt and Hammy all had strong defense. Some individual brilliance came from Sheehy, Jake and Kane running hard, on the back of this we were able to level the game with 10 minutes to go. Ryan and Blake both had strong games on the wings and made sure no one got around us. Horney and Benny were great in the middle of the park and helped the forwards out up the middle. In the end we ran away scoring a few tries and gave us a great win for round 1 of 2010.  We were all happy with the boy’s efforts today. Get to training so we can work on the little things but for round one it was a top effort boys.

12B’s Engadine 20   v’s  Yarrawarra Tigers  4

Our first game of the year with our newly formed team, we where up against the Tigers

We had a slow start not moving up in our defence and they put a try on us early. After a kind word or 2 from Bryce our trainer we stated to get it together and the difference showed. Our forwards Jarrod, Austen and Kyle lead us up through the middle and we started to put the tiger on the back foot. Our first try came through Frosty and this fired up the boys going into half time.

We came into the second half all guns blazing with great defence from Jett, Angus, Matt S, Liam and Mitchell; we had the Tigers heads down. Our second try came through a great intercept from Logan who ran away to score, Chris came up with a quick dummy half try and then a great forwards try from Austen put the finishing touches on the match.

Great work from our new half Ben and five eight Josh who lead us around the park, MOM went to Frosty our captain who lead from the front all game

Good game boys you all lifted as the game went on; working on our defence and support play will help us against tougher sides throughout the year.

WELL DONE

Tries: Frosty 1, Logan 1, Austen 1, Chris 1

Goals: Jai 1, Austen 1
