ENJOY!

Fairwinds Christian School was founded with a primary emphasis on a sound Christian education. That principle still drives the focus and strategies of our school. Over the years, we have seen our graduates called to serve the Lord in many branches of ministry. From Awana missionaries to full time pastors to missionaries in the foreign field, FCS is heavily represented.

Just as important, the quality of a FCS education has placed Christian professionals in many arenas of industry and business. We all know how critical it can be for accomplishing the Lord’s work to have fellow Christians in a place of influence. I remember working at Gino’s (predecessor to KFC for the younger grads) with Craig and a couple other FCS guys. The managers let us know that anyone else from Fairwinds interested in a job would be welcomed! We had some good times closing that store each night, didn’t we Craig?!

We are going to make an effort in the future to determine how many of our graduates are in full time ministry, and how many are involved in branches of their churches’ ministries. In addition to the full time missionaries and preachers, we’re also interested in knowing how many FCS grads are serving the Lord in Sunday School, nurseries, Vacation Bible Schools, and any other ministry in the church. This will be the focus of a future online survey we are planning to conduct.

Recent classes have seen a number of grads go on to Christian universities, with several more taking an active role in their churches’ ministry, so we know the number of faithful servants will increase. Please remember to keep these folks in your prayers. We hope to see you at an FCS Alumni Association event soon!

It is De Ja Vu in the Christian school arena – the sad part is that I really don’t think of myself as old enough to have a child in elementary school.  After a 4 month dismal attempt at home schooling, a brief look at public school options and oh ye, that brief meeting with the charter school, we settled on De Ja Vu. Seth is now a 1st grader at a Christian school, Daytona Beach Christian School .

Is everything at a Christian School perfect – NO! Seth and I both agree in this area. In fact, the other day he told me about the two worst days of his short 7 year life and they were both experienced at the Christian school. The first worst day of his life was when he was running full speed ahead on the play ground and somehow did not see the 25’ high light pole and about 36” from the ground his mouth met the pole. The school called to report the blood shed, which resulted in one loose tooth and the following day off of school. Although, I was very proud of him for later pulling his own tooth out – it may have had something to do with the last time when I said,, “I promise, I won’t pull it”, only to then hand him the tooth I just pulled.  He then reminded me of the second worst day of his life, which had happened only a few short days prior to our conversation.  The kids were in the lunch room and somehow Roofus got mad enough to think that it was ok for him to swing his plastic bag at a high rate of speed with an apple inside the bag. Roofus then intentionally hit Seth in the eye with his self propelled apple launcher. Seth’s stories reminded me of a couple similar “worst days of my life”.  It was my very first fist fight and it took place between the bus barn and the gym. My parents had told me to never hit anyone and like a 7th grade idiot, I listened. Needless to say it was a one-sided fight! My second worst day was hitting my head on the window in the school bus while wrestling with another student. (Which technically gives me a third memory – anybody else remember those busses? Enough said!)  That, once again, less than stellar, display of my strength landed me in the emergency room with stitches.

So, with all of these “bad memories”, why do the De Ja Vu thing.  Just a few quick reasons: My son’s teachers have a heart for Christ and a special heart of compassion for my boy (De Ja Vu). My little boy is developing his own heart for Christ, hearing about God daily and is memorizing Scripture (De Ja Vu). While they are not perfect (ie. Rufus) my son is making great friends with kids whose parents have similar values and priorities (De Ja Vu). The leaders and administrators are not perfect but absolutely give their best and are always willing to go the extra mile to serve (De Ja Vu).

Did I agree with everything that ever took place at FCS? Absolutely not, but I don’t agree with everything that takes places at my current ministry and I am the leader here.  Currently we drive Seth over 30 minutes one way to school and we don’t plan on stopping any time soon. I only wish he could attend FCS- then it could be De Ja Vu, De Ja Vu.

ALUMNI EVENT
2009 Homecoming

The 2008 Homecoming Banquet was held on Feb. 6, 2009 in the FCS Gym Auditorium.  By all accounts, it was a great success!  We estimated about 30 past graduates attended, and we could sense the excitement and interest building in the Alumni Association.

The Homecoming Court of 2009 was introduced to us, and we had an awesome catered dinner, served by Corey Waters and his group! Banners were unveiled for several Girls Championship Volleyball and Basketball Teams.  We also now have a new banner for FCS 1,000 and 1,500 point scorers.  We failed to note that Chuck Short scored 1,000 from the free throw line, but that feat has yet to be substantiated!  Thanks to Stephanie Robinson for 2 beautiful songs!

Saturday was a blast as well, as 12 alumni showed up for a highly competitive co-ed volleyball match.  The guys followed with several games of basketball (this author didn't make it past the 1/2 court 4 on 4!)

We're looking to build on the momentum from the excitement generated by this year's attendees!  We are in the planning phase for a Summer BBQ that should be fun for the entire family.  Stay tuned for more FCS Alumni news!

 SPECIAL INVITATION!

I would like to extend a special invitation to those who attended FCS but graduated at another school. Several folks have missed out attending an event because they assumed this association was for graduates only. PLEASE feel free to come to our meetings, events, and school functions. You are part of our history and are always welcomed. Don’t worry, no one is going to give you detention or a hair card! Consider this your “silver platter” invitation!

Take Care - see you soon!

Featured Bio
Stephanie Meikle Robinson (1994)

When looking down the roster of FCS graduates, the names become a blur when attempting to sort out the Meikles and Pelles, maiden and married names, which was which when they graduated, and I’m still trying to figure it all out!  There is no mistaking, however, when Stephanie Meikle Robinson grabs the microphone to sing on any given Sunday morning!  Her beautiful voice and smile are all are own, and we are truly blessed to hear her sing on a semi-regular basis at Fairwinds.

Stephanie graduated valedictorian in 1994, and went on to attend Tennessee Temple University for a year, then back to Delaware Tech for another year.  Steph was swept off her feet by Wayne Robinson, and the two married in August 1996.  She worked for CIGNA Healthcare in Tennessee and CIGNA International in Delaware as a Customer Service Coordinator.

Stephanie and Wayne have three beautiful children, Bennett age 6, Meghan age 4 and Noah age 2 in April.  In 2002, Stephanie decided to stay home with kids, where she now home schools them.  It’s easy to see that family is at the core of Steph’s priorities, values and God-centered home.

Traveling, family, friends, and music are Steph’s main interests, but she also enjoys crafts and sewing projects.  By her admission, “I usually have a few projects I want to get to.”  And did I mention she can sing?!  Stephanie is a featured singer at Fairwinds Baptist Church, with the choir, as a soloist, and in the many dramas the church has presented in recent years.

In high school, Steph enjoyed performing in school plays and playing on the basketball team.  She said she was an “awful” basketball player, but played anyway!  That’s the spirit, Steph!

Stephanie’s favorite memory of Fairwinds Christian School:

“One morning on my way to school I accidentally hit another car at a stoplight. I walked into the school building hysterical because I knew I would be in big trouble. Pastor Carlo (then Mr. DeStefano, principal) saw me and told me everything would be absolutely fine as he walked me straight to the library to call my parents. He sat right there while I did it. I remember how much easier that call was with his encouragement.”

Thanks, Steph, for sharing a bit of your present and past for the Newsletter.  I hope everyone can get a chance to stop by Fairwinds some time

and hear her sing or perform in the dramas.  You’ll be truly blessed!
