Last Month's Puzzler: Why is fiber immune to Electromagnetic Interference (EMI)?
For anybody who was stumped last month, here's the answer to the previous puzzler. Electromagnetic Interference is basically only a factor in conductors that can act as antennas to collect RF energy. Since glass is a dielectric substance, there is no conductive, antenna like effect. Therefore, fiber optic cables are immune to EMI and will produce a noise-free transmission. |
