Celebrate Earth Day Year Round!
earthday
Earth Day is officially observed this weekend, April 21-22. On Earth Day, events are held worldwide to increase awareness and appreciation of the Earth's natural environment. There are many ways to get involved, from local family activities to global campaigns, to simple steps you can take today in your own home.

Spokane's Earth Day Celebration is Saturday April 21. EarthDaySpokane.org is hosting a free community event, a street fair downtown on Main St. between Division and Browne. There will be lots to do, including crafts, children's activities, local art & music, and a panel discussion series. The Earth Day Spokane website also has a calendar listing Earth-Friendly events and volunteer opportunities throughout the year.

The Earth Day Network's "A Billion Acts of Green" is a global campaign with a goal to register one billion actions to reduce carbon emissions and support sustainability. Participants can pledge to do their part by committing to an "Act of Green" - anything from pledging to eat more local food, eliminate the use of toxic cleaning & home products, biking to work, contacting legislators, and many more!

Green America's National Green Pages   has Monthly Green Tips you can follow throughout the year. April's Monthly Tips include some simple tips to help you do a green makeover on your kitchen. Future months tips cover how to green your garden, travel, transportation, gift giving, and more.
White's Boots - Client Spotlight
White's Boots
The White's Boots tradition has its roots in the logging country of West Virginia before the Civil War. It was there that Otto White's father and grandfather made calked boots for the logging industry.

In 1902, the tradition was carried west when Otto and his father moved to St. Maries, Idaho. Then in 1915, they moved to Spokane, Washington where, under Otto's guidance, the business flourished.

Otto White's desire was a simple one: Make the finest work boots in the world! This single-minded ambition drove Otto to excel at his craft. His insistence on quality infected the workers of his growing business too, and the White's reputation grew with every pair of boots that came out of the shop.

During its over-100 year history, White's has maintained an unwavering focus on quality in the boots that it builds and the service that it provides. Today we still build our boots one at a time by hand for one simple reason, to ensure that our customers enjoy the finest boots made anywhere in the world. We know that's a strong claim but it's one that we gladly back every day by continuing to use only the finest materials, designs, and craftsmanship.

Meet Laurie Stewart, Commercial Account Manager
Laurie
Laurie Stewart
I have been employed with Fidelity Associates since December 1992 and have never looked back. I worked in the Personal Insurance Department for several years and was then given the opportunity to move to the Commercial Insurance Department where I am a Senior Account Manager. I continue to work here because I appreciate the management team and the caliber of all the employees. They are always there to assist me and they continue to challenge me in many aspects of the position and increase my knowledge of the insurance industry.

I was born in Cleveland, OH and lived in Chicago, IL before attending high school in Salem, OR. I have lived in Spokane since I graduated from Whitworth College (now Whitworth University). I have been married for 28 years to Kelly Stewart, a realtor for Plese Realty and Deacon at Assumption Parish. We have two daughters; Kelsey, a graduate from WSU and Emily, a junior at Shadle Park High School. Both of our daughters are living at home along with my mother-in-law, Molly, three dogs and a cat, so when I say our house is like a zoo, it is! In my free time I like to read, walk and quilt and watch my favorite TV show, Criminal Minds. I also do various volunteer work through our Church and volunteer with Crosswalk and Second Harvest. One of my favorite volunteer activities is sewing and stuffing Christmas stockings for the children at Crosswalk.
