401k LOANS - A SMART BET OR NOT?
|
When money is tight, it can be tempting to think about dipping into your retirement account. Taxes and penalties generally discourage people from taking an outright withdrawal, but a growing number of retirement programs offer temporary access to those funds through what is called a participant loan.
 |
| Should you touch your nest egg? | Even with good planning, you may find yourself needing to pay an emergency expense - anything from medical bills to car repairs to a new roof for the house. Before you tap into retirement savings to help through that time, you might want to consider the potential cost.
Read this article from Plan Sponsor magazine to find out how these loans work and the pros and cons. |
GREEN CHILE ENCHILADAS |
Try this recipe on Cinco De Mayo or your next Mexican night!
4 boneless chicken breasts - cook and shred 1 8 oz pckg cream cheese - room temp 1 small can chopped green chiles 1 cup or more of shredded Mexican cheese 10 flour tortillas 1 large or 2 small cans green chile enchilada sauce
Cook and shred chicken & smash together with the cream cheese. Add green chiles, cheese and about 3/4 cup of enchilada sauce, mix well. Fill each tortilla with about 1/2 cup of chicken mixture. Roll and place in 9x13 greased pan (seven will fit in the pan, use an additional smaller pan for the other three.) Top rolled tortillas with another cup or more of shredded cheese and pour the enchilada sauce over the top (can also top with some chopped cilantro.) Bake at 350 for 30-45 minutes.
These freeze very well - you can use two 8x8 foil baking pans and freeze four enchiladas in each. You can also easily stretch the recipe to make a dozen. |

| Auto Thefts - Good and Bad News |
According to a recent article by the Insurance Information Institute, there is both good and bad news when it comes to auto theft statistics.
The good news? The end of 2010 marked the seventh consecutive annual decrease in the number of U.S. motor vehicle thefts. The FBI reported in December 2011 that for the first six months of 2011, thefts were down 5% from the same period of 2010 . The most recent data available also shows a decrease in the average comprehensive insurance premium. (Comprehensive is the coverage on an auto policy that covers not only auto theft, but also fire, vandalism, weather-related and some other damages.)
Some not-so-good news? Spokane ranks as 4th among the top 10 U.S. metropolitan areas with the highest motor vehicle theft rates. Washington ranks as 7th among the top 10 states with the most thefts.
What can you do? In addition to considering comprehensive coverage for your cars, here are some auto theft prevention tips from the Washington State Patrol Auto Theft Section. |
| Meet Diane Huber |
 |
| Diane Huber with Kruzer | I have worked at Fidelity in the Accounting Department for 19 years, and have been the Assistant Controller for the past 11 years. I really enjoy working at Fidelity and feel like they are my second family.
My husband and I will be celebrating our 31st anniversary next month, and we have been blessed with 3 children and 5 grand-children to date. I grew up in an Air Force family and have lived in a lot of places including Germany and Japan, but have always considered Spokane my home. Our two sons are currently serving in the Air Force with one living in Japan and one living in Italy, so we plan on taking some overseas trips in the future. Our daughter was also in the Air Force, but decided after having children that the civilian life better suited her at this stage in her life. She is currently living in Virginia where her husband is stationed, and is working on her master's degree.
We live on a small farm with our horses, dogs, and cats. I enjoy riding my horses, reading, riding bikes, camping, hiking, and most of all my family and friends. |
