Greeting Friends,
As I arrived at Florence this morning I
was welcomed by the beautiful sound of birds chirping. It was if they were
reassuring me “spring will come, spring will come”. And, in light of the
pending snow storms, it is a welcome reminder that it will indeed come; and soon
Florence will be
teaming in abundance with new growth and the promise of a new season.
We began preparing for
the 2011 season last fall by reviewing the 2010 surveys and class evaluations. This
is the second, in a series of five newsletters, outlining the results and what
we are doing in response to your suggestions.
We asked “What fine art
mediums are you most interested in?” 28% indicated an interested in watercolor,
16% specified oil, 15% expressed a desire to paint with acrylics, 13% choose
pencil or ink, 11% prefer pastels and 8% photography. We then divided the
surveys up by medium to assess the desired length of the workshop, coupled with
participant’s ability level and days of the week that work best according to their
schedule.
Upon review of previous
schedules we found that we were not meeting the following needs:
One-day beginner watercolor
workshop on a week-end
Two-day beginner oil workshop
during the week
Two-day beginner to intermediate
acrylic workshop Friday into the weekend
Two-day beginner to
intermediate drawing workshop during the week
Two-day beginner photography
workshop Friday into the weekend
And while there is the
old proverbial saying “you can please some of the people, some of the time, but
you can't please all of the people, all of the time”. We are striving to please
most of the people most of the time by listening to our participants and providing
quality programming that fits your schedule. Thus the above listed workshops will be among the over 50 workshops offered this year.
Because here at Florence, we care about
you and are interested in helping you meet your goals so you can grow as an
individual, as an artists. We will
not be successful unless we are meeting and exceeding your needs and
expectations. So please tell us how we are doing and what we can do to make
your experience better.
Sincerely,
Meghan B Minton
Executive Director
